Description
In the back yard, a glint under a Green Lace Leaf Maple caught my eye. Brushing away the low-hanging, delicate leaves, I found this in the shadow. Carefully bringing it inside, I asked my wife
"Do you know what this is?".
"A dragon's egg, of course."
"Dragon?"
"Yes, a small Garden Dragon. One has been nibbling on the tomato vines out front. They do that just before they lay an egg."
"What do we do with the egg, then? Keep it?"
"We'll put it under the indoor plant light. Keep it for now, rather than leave it in the back yard."
"The raccoons might find it and eat the egg. Inside, then. What if it hatches?"
"It will, but Garden Dragons are no trouble when they are that small. Come spring, we'll let her fly."
"Her? How can you tell?"
"See these colors in her embrionic wings? Males have a predominance of blues. This one does not."
"Hmm, I see. I love the glitter of the gold."
"So do the male dragons...always preoccupied with shiny things. The sparkle will help her attract a mate, when the time comes."
"Well, at least they don't eat hummingbirds!"
"No, they don't."
"What do we tell guests this egg is? They are bound to notice and ask questions."
"You think of something."
"Ah, we'll tell them it is an 'objet d'arte': a glass egg."
So, I present my latest photograph: a glass egg.
You do believe it's a glass egg, don't you?
Thanks for the peek and any comments you should make.
