Description
Other common names for the plant above is Flowering Nutmeg and Pheasant Berry and it is a distant relation fo the Lonicera genus.
I have 3 of these and both bumble and honey bees flock to them during July and August. When the fruit comes, which itself is just as attractive as the flowers, Blackbirds descend and take the majority of them. Two of the 3 plants I have were actually planted by the birds, one of which grows out of the top of a very large Laylandii stump that I left for Ivy to cover! It has grown for three years with no soil whatsoever, though I shall toss in a few handfulls before the growing begins next year. In February or March, all 3 plants are cut right down to ground level, shooting up once more in short time to over 2 or 3 metres.
During the coming week, I am considering taking this old bod off to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. 'Tis a few years since my last visit and this time of year is a lovely time to go - armed with camera of course! ^=^
Warm today - very! 53f before 10am! This is far more typical of a Cornish Autumn than the cold spell we had last year. I am hoping it lasts! ^=^
Off now to Falmouth! Back later to play catchup! ^=^
Just a note on yesterday's posting. After I took the photo of the wayward snail, I lifted him up and took him down to a very deep rock pool, packed with seaweed and places to hide. I imagine he had been trying to reach water for a while, but the tide was well out. Had I left him it's a dead cert a seagull would have seen the trail he was leaving, only a tiny part of which I shot, and grabbed the little chap. ^=^
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^
