Description

A pond near home. Chicago, October 2010. (Much better, Full-Size.) * * *
I began commenting this morning & I'll finish over the week. I'll get to all of you, I promise. My uploads will be infrequent, as I'm catching up with work & life now. (Boy, does it take time!) Dedis will come too, only over time...it just takes time to get back into everything. For those who are interested, I have one more medical test to finish, and I'll be through. But I've seen all your work---that's for real!---I've just not sat & commented. I hope all of you had a splendid October, and thanks so much for your comments, support & always wonderful art: It's a gift to me and the whole world.
* * * I'll finish commenting this week... A fine November to all! Mark (I'm having problems with my fav's: They'll show up soon. You'll still get ebots though!)

Beautiful light and warmth in this scene, the way the sun feels after a cold spell. You always bring that kind of welcome warmth, Mark. So glad to hear life is calming down for you now. And you've made your way back to Rendo where you have been very missed. CC

Just came home from a long walk with Magnus and what do I see? A wonderful news that you are back with us in RR. Welcome back, dear Mark. It is such a joy to see you post again. And what a marvellous shot this is. You got the reflection perfectly, not to mention all the other in this beautiful scene. Lovely play of light and shade.

So GREAT to see you back, Mark, with this pic of this lovely peaceful-looking place. You are making good use of your camera, if this is an example! Best wishes for a speedier recovery than hitherto.

wonderful to hear from you and all your comments are a juicy trea (not trick ;D)! It looks you're whole and healthy again. We say health like a fish, but I don't know why! I like this pond, it has a classical flavor as if it weew a Roman bath, possibly the calidarioum considering the season. Maybe the architects made it on purpose.

Stunning photograph with your characteristic interplay of form, light and shadow. Welcome back to the galleries - I thought I saw your shadow flitting around on a number of occasions. Get entirely well and free of "procedures", my friend.

Ahhhhh, a Markism image:) Now, what is that you say? A wonderfully composed, interesting scene of light and shadow beckoning us in to look around behind the corners to see all the elements that caught your eye in the first place. Nice, tight image my friend. Architectually fascinating too.

Oh my! This is superb. The light is gorgeous, and the horizontal (and then suddenly vertical!) lines draw my eye across and around and up and down again and then back ... your composition makes me drink this place in and feel it down to my bones! I'm sure you already know how much I love the reflections and the colors. It's so intimate and immediate and soothing and healing that I'm almost indignant that anyone else has seen this photograph. It feels like such a special and holy place, and I want to have been the only person to have ever experienced it. THAT is power in art, my dear, and you do it so well!

Ah Mark, when I saw this, all other words were stunned into silence except a softly breathed "Coo", a British slang word of awed delight that I picked up somewhere in my childhood. (I always like to look up words to see what horrible things have been done with them, and there is another slang use of this word. For the purposes of this comment, it does not exist.) Of course the words eventually came crowding back, each vying for prominence as the most important reason why this totally swept my off my words for a bit. They raised quite a clamor and there was total disorder for a while. ("Coo" hid behind the tree in the corner.) There are three qualities that hit my senses first. The dark brown and black, the bright light, and the lines! For a moment everything else fades and I see the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal patterns in bold relief weaving a fascinating story in my mind. Then shading and detail creep in. Thin ragged lines trace across the stone. Vertical lines of gold and green shine from behind a screen. In the distance, softly shaded lines are stacked into steps. As I notice these steps more words speak pleadingly for attention. Depths and hidden corners offering peace and solitude. My eyes seek out places where my soul can feel a quiet respite from the busy day to day existence. I see them behind the screen among the stepped rocks, behind the tree, where "Coo" is now gently dozing, and on the steps overlooking the water. (Yes, reflections I hear you.) The light, mentioned earlier, has been pointing out areas of joy and now motions me to the bright swath of light on the shelf over the water, and to the water itself. The water! The reflections! Beautiful in their repeat of the browns, blacks, and light of their surroundings. In the lines now softened and brushed with motion, the abstract shapes send a myriad of images to my mind. The cool interior of a Gothic Cathedral, Japanese candlelit lanterns of remembrance on the water, and sun shining through curtains of black lace. The clamor of words has quieted now. I am going to gaze at your image for a while, all thoughts suspended.

The light in this is beautiful. You have a strong connection with light and the sun in all of your work. I love how the autumn colors, stone, and light reflect on the water. The lines are lovely. Everything looks very secure and balanced and peaceful, and it has a cooling effect even though there is much warmth. You are definitely in tune with your environment and it's been an education to see Chicago in a new way--through your eyes. Just take care of yourself and all the rest will fall into place.

Hi Mark! How wonderful I felt when I saw you had commented on my art, I always love reading your knowledgeable comments and often you tell me things I hadn't realised I had done within my art. Your comment came on a day I was really feeling down, but you lifted my spirits so much. I hope that you are feeling ok, it is so sad that you are going through so much healthwise, and do hope your art and your wonderful music help you. Yes I would love to hear your music all compiled on a CD one day, when you feel stronger. I love the photo very much, I love reflections they are to me mesmerising. You are quite the expert now with your camera, and it is so obvious that all your photos are taken with your artists eye fully in focus, just wonderful!! take care, hugs Jane xx

Tier upon tier, like little islands around the water .. it's like Rendo .. little groups of folk who's art may not be like the next guys, but who's hearts beat in sync .. and each little group overlaps the next, just as this image portrays .. and water .. water binds us all, aftr all, aren't we something like 96% water? grins. But we all missed you, worried about you, each of us with our ear to the ground, hoping to hear news of you. And here you are .. even in the midst of all you have been going through, test after test, procedure after procedure, you still have those wonderful words and wonderful pictures you see with your camera or your brush or your words, and they paint islands of peace and rest for our souls, just as the waters in your image do. Sigh. Peace just rushes out in waves, serenity emanates from the monitor's screen .. that's how powerful your images are, and how strongly your words affect us all. Heal, Mark, Heal. My boys snap to attention when I say Heel .. you should to, and HEAL, grins. And thank you Mark, for those wonderful words you've left in my gallery, another diamond added to the pile I've been collecting. smiles.

Ha...I think I've been reading the Dune novels too many times, because when I saw this image, my first thought was "Khul whad!" I probably spelled that wrong, but according to the dictionary in the back of the first novel Dune the mighty work itself, it is said that Paul Atreides (Muad'Dib) uttered those words upon watching a bird thingie hatching...apparently the words mean "I am profoundly stirred." Well...needless to say, I am profoundly stirred: in a calm sort of way, if that makes any sense! This is a moving picture (not a movie, but...oh heck, you know what I mean and I'm too lazy to type much tonight.) Anyway, this picture is astonishing. It's incredibly elegant, wonderfully intimate, and yet its open and spacious. I love the hints at regularity (lots of rectilinear shapes) but there's no rigidity to this...it's more geological, as if the rocks themselves are not hammered or carved, but simply broken naturally along cleavages. And to top it off, that naturalness carries through to the water (not broken at all) and the lines in the bark of various trees, and the more vertically-oriented fence posts/slats. I love this. It's a feast for the eyes, and now that I'm back at home, and able to comment a TINY bit more, I just had to come back and say something about this. It is an amazing, gorgeous piece of work!
