Description

Captured yesterday, 11/7/10, at the Renaissance Faire held at the Felicita County Park, 742, in Escondido, California. Much, much better viewed full size. Although I've just begun the challenging process of postworking the 143 pics I took at this boisterous, colorful, lavish, and whimsical event, I thought I would pop this one in today for a sample of things to come. According to the owner, these colorful birds are performing parrots at Renaissance Faires. They are perched atop a dog-drawn cart carrying them, which I did't bother photographing because of the crowd surrounding it. I wish the promoters of this event had chosen a better site to hold this faire, because the area was not only limited in acreage for the enactors, vendors and visitors, but also had way too many trees for good balanced lighting when snapping pics. Incidentally, this also turned out to be a hazardous 94-mile one way trip, because my auto cooling system became dangerously overheated, bubbling and boiling, at the moment of my arrival, which was literally way out in the virtual boonies. Fortunately, and inexplicitly, no such problem on my return. I will tempt fate only once, so the car is now in my mechanic's shop for diagnosis and repair. Although I am a member of AAA, it was still scary. Anyway, until I complete my postwork on this Renaissance photo shoot, it's back tomorrow with the usual Civil War and Hibiscus stuff, etc. So long, thankx for popping in, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

First, I'm glad you got your car fixed---that can be debilitating (and leaving you grateful that it didn't break down while you were on the road in the middle of nowhere). (I read ahead & saw that it was fixed.) As for these birds, they're gorgeous. I didn't know parrots came in those colors. ("Came in those colors"...I'm talking like you bought them at Saks Fifth Avenue!) They're really stunning. And you got them in 'formation'---they look like they're performing, because they're all facing the same way and leaning the same way. A real eye-popper. Renaissance faires are, I'm sure, major opportunities for photo-shoots. And to tell you the truth, I've been at very few that weren't crowded into small spaces; I don't know why. Maybe that's how it was in the Renaissance, but I'm sure it's about expense rather than "authenticity". Again, congratulations on wending your way through these affairs without getting injured or sued, lol. You had to get pretty close to capture these birds this close. Very fine capture, Harry, and another shot of yours that takes us to another world. In my whole life, I've not seen parrots that looked like this!

Excellent capture! The one in the back looks a little disgruntled, like he is wondering why those undeserving louts in the front are getting the close-up. Beautiful color and detail! Wonderful capture of their eyes, and feathers. I love the patterns of the feathers around their eyes. I like the pose of the red one in the front. He looks like he's leaning forward to get all of himself into the shot. I can't wait to see more from the faire! I'm sorry about your car trouble.

Great shot Harry. I met a guy a couple of years ago in the waiting room of the veterinarian college at Kansas State University (all the vets in Kansas have been degreed from here) who was just standing there with a Macaw on his shoulder...the bird's tail feathers were so long they went down to the man's waist in back. I asked him how old the bird was and he said 45 and that he was the second owner...the first owner had died. A lady sitting nearby about fell out of her chair when she asked how long such a bird lives...and the owner said to about 100. So these birds are in for the long haul! Excellent color and detail.
