I'm not sure what all to say about myself, I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA) and work as a graphic designer/computer technician for a print shop. I have a BS in Historic Preservation, but wasn't willing to go on for a Master's Degree, nor was I interested in teaching, so I found another career. I discovered Bryce way back when version 1 came out, but I didn't really get serious about the program, or 3D art in general, until a few years ago. When I'm not in front of the computer, I'm either making costumes or wearing them to a renaissance festival, or building a new rock-sculpture, or possibly wandering with a camera.
When I'm not making something, odds are I'm reading from my far too wide range of interests: Astronomy, Cosmology, Physics, Archeology, Anthropology, History, Current Events, NASA (of course) and anything else that happens to catch my attention. It's really hard to find enough time to do all of the things I want to be doing! What drew me to Renderosity is the many excellent artists who continue to inspire me to push myself as an artist. More recently I've added a selection of stuff to another online gallery location:http://nefariousdro.deviantart.com/Â

More of a Shadow look than a Vorlon, I would say. I like it! It looks like something a carnivore would build - many claws and fangs....

Mike, you absolutely ROCK with these spaceships! This kicks some serious behind, my friend! It looks so completely alien, and yet somewhat organic. In the full size, the textures are fantastic! Top notch work, here! Thanks, BTW, for the link to that tut on creating starscapes and nebulas. I shall be putting it to good use very soon....

Nice pic, with great ship design! Definitively agressive and not human, but I'd say not quite organic to me. If I could give you a little advice, since I have few biology knowledges, if you want to create horn, blades and stuff like this in an organic way, you should create the base larger than the top. If you look to an insect horn, you would see that the thinner the horn become, the harder and most of the time darker it is. Here, the blades of these ships have the same width from their base to their top. That's what makes them not really organic. But I really like this pic, don't worry! ;)

I really love this pic! In answer to your question as to who (or what) these are, I can definitely say that I recognize them: they're Ethel, Mabel, and Kathy...well...maybe not, but sometimes my brain goes off in really bizarre directions. As for the ships themselves, I can say that there ARE some similarities to Vorlon ship designs, but NOTHING that could be considered derivative, since THEY like these are derived from nature...As I always like to say, there's really nothing new under the sun because Nature did it first! Having said that, I can also say that these are so distinct. They do look organic, or at least as if they've been designed by someone with a perception of reality and an organic-based aesthetic. Whoever the species might be that built these ships, you can definitely think that they're not us and they have a real thing for curves and spikes. Nice! I also love the rusted metal color these have...even though ships in vacuum don't corrode in the same way as they would in an atmosphere, the color of these ships indicates one of two things: one, they're intentionally that color or two: they've been out there a long time--rather like those LDEF (Long Duration Exposure Facilities) NASA had a thing for launching back in the 80s, just to see how long it took stuff to fall apart in space. I should also add, you bring out a sense of menace--like like good guys and bad guys, but more like clueless people suddenly faced with...SOMETHING that just doesn't give a flying frak about what little bitty intruder Humans are doing...it gives me the feeling that we're dealing with truck drivers who aren't too concerned that they're about to get bug splatters on their windshields...they'll just turn on their windshield wipers and keep hauling mass to their destination, pop into the canteen for a sandwich and a beer, pop over to the shower facilities to clean up a bit, then back to their rigs to listen to the radio, doze off and maybe engage in a bit of fiki-fiki with the truckstop trollops. That is far more menacing in a way than bad guys who are bad guys because they're spiky. In short, this rocks and I love all of the rich implications of it. Amazing work!
