My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

I would have enjoyed this without the poem but the poem adds so much to it. I love going to places where I hear nothing but the sounds of nature. The sound of silence just refreshes and fills my soul.

Magnificent desolation... And what a lovely poem to go with it. Beautiful composition - the grass in the foreground really give this a feeling of depth. The Flint Hills is one of those areas that you just cannot comprehend unless you've seen it with your own eyes. This comes about as close as one can with a camera. Excellent photography, Tara!

Wonderful image. You do get a tremendous feeling of space. Thank you for hearing my plea - a raised spot at last! Beautiful poem with superb imagery. About 150 years ago the stillness would have been broken by a low rumble growing louder until thousands of buffalo came over the hill.

This is kind of strange. The moment I saw the foto, before I read your poem, I was thinking about what it must be like to be standing there, feeling the wind, letting it wash over me. wow!!

Wonderfully peaceful image and soothing words to set the tone. I look at this ground for what it is today and what it was 150 or 1000 years ago (grass and more grass). And then I see it as it was during the Cretaceous Period (145-65 million years ago), the floor of a shallow inland sea called the Western Interior Seaway...what a place.
