Description
X 31 - Öresund Train
The X 31 trains are regional trains trafficking southern Sweden as far north as Gothenburg, across the bridge between Malmö and Copenhagen, and up to Elsinor, Denmark. They are 3 car sets manufactured by Bombardier (who calls the X 31 “Contessa”). Denmark also has the X 31 for local commuter traffic. The center car has a depressed floor which is level with platforms to accommodate passengers with baggage since the trains stop at Kastrup/Copenhagen Airport. In this car the seats are individual which fold down from the side walls, allowing for more baggage space.
The first X 31 sets were delivered in 1999.
A total of 90 sets have been built, and 21 more have been ordered due to increased traffic demands once the Malmö City Tunnel is completed (inauguration by the King of Sweden on Dec. 4, 2010).
Length: 78.9 meters/263 feet.
156 tons
Electric dive:15,000 volts, 16 2/3 Hz, 2,300 kiloWatts (Sweden) and 25,000 volts, 50 Hz (Denmark) – the trains switch between the Danish and Swedish electrical systems automatically.
The trains have 6 trucks/boggies with 12 axles, of which 8 axles (4 at each end) are powered, giving a good acceleration. These have both disk brakes and magnetic breaks.
Maximum speed 180 km. per hour/113 miles per hour.
Double ended cabs.
229 seats (including 20 folding seats in the middle car)
Run by Statens Järnvägar (SJ, Swedish State Railroad) and by Danish DSB First (DSB = Danske Statsbane/Danish State Railroad).
In the photo is a two set train. It was difficult to photograph due to all the passengers and the sun low in the sky. The photo was taken a few seconds before the doors closed. This particular set is run by SJ.
Enjoy!

I don't know much about 'new' trains, but I'm learning thanks to you.The first thing I've learned is...British trains really are as cr*p as I thought.I could never imagine wanting to go to my local station to take a picture, other than the architecture of some of Liverpools older stations.I'm actually finding this interesting. Cheers mate.
