Description

Here's an urban layer cake for your birthday, my friend. I hope you find it tasty! At the top you see the northbound lanes of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Next is the end of a pier and a bit of Elliott Bay (and a gull, just for good measure). In the middle you see the southbound lanes of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. At the bottom is evidence of Alaskan Way itself (or the sidewalk and fence, at any rate). The verticals belong to a railing I was behind when I shot this. (It's a single image ... no layers at all, actually ... only the ones that were really there!) I leave it up to you to decide which is cake and which is frosting! :)
Happy Birthday, Corey!

Happy Birthday Corey. A delicious cake...although a little hard to chew? Like the guy holding up the little child to see through the tourist telescope on the bottom layer...that has to be the frosting:)

What a shot! What a cake! I love the layers, the flavors, the tones...everything! There are sharp divisions in this image, but they're not boundaries, not black lines you aren't supposed to color outside of and that really appeals to me and draws me into every aspect of this picture. It's a great birthday dedication too! Yeah! Corey's gonna love this. I love it too, and yeah...Happy Birthday Corey.

You guys just made me melt: the dedication and all the well wishes. Thank you everybody!! I love this picture! It has that ellusive on the fly this-actually-came-out quality to it. I'm wondering how you made it? I'm assuming from a moving car? Unless you totally ninja-ed it and pulled off to the side and got out as the traffic whizzed by? I love how "American" this looks from a culturally archeological stand point. That wonderful wide -open -spaces -on -the -road feel. I also love the tryptich effect between the layes where it looks like three seperate realities coming together as a whole. I like this a lot and can almost hear the sounds of the traffic and feel of the water. Great shot and thanks for the dedi!

Cut a slice out of that and you'd cause some headaches :-) Great what perspective will do to a picture, great capture and dedi. Happy Birthday from me too.
