Description

My apologies for hitting so many of these, but this one is one I just had to share. For those who haven't already heard the story, several years ago I didn't have much money, but had a 13"x19" color inkjet and a goodly supply of ink for it (I was doing freelance design work at the time) so I decided to spice up my rather uninspired presents with custom-made wrapping paper of my own creation. It was such a huge hit with my family it's become an annual tradition for me, now, and I think that they anticipate the yearly designs more than the gifts inside, now. It's actually kind of fun to watch them carefully try to save the paper, and I've been seeing it re-used multiple times until it's so battered nothing can save it, anymore. This particular paper scheme I came up with just a day ago, and it's specifically intended to wrap my nephew's present (he's 9, this year, I can't believe how fast time is flying by!) so I wanted something a bit more colorful and with a good geometric pattern to it. The pattern started out in Adobe Illustrator, and was then brought into Photoshop for additional effects. In all, I have 5 layers of effects all overlaying each other to get this result. I think he's going to like it, but truth is the present inside will probably be all he really cares about. Still, it was fun to make this one, so no regrets on my part! I doubt I'll be posting again until after Xmas, so those of you who celebrate the day, have a wonderful and creative holiday!

I really love that pattern! It reminds me of ancient floor tiles as well as something I'd probably see in a place not too unlike a Turkish bath: some place relaxing, and put together by true artisans. Marvelous! I'll never get tired to these, and the idea is quite a unique and fun one. I can see that you've put quite a bit of work into this, as well as the others and it's truly an outstanding piece. Like the others it has potential uses beyond wrapping paper, and that's what makes it so great. I can see ornate floor tiles, ceiling tiles, a ruined version of this in a render featuring alien ruins with two moons looming in the sky...the possibilities are endless. Great stuff!

Oh, this is just delightful, Mike! I love these wrapping papers, and I can certainly see why they are such a hit with your family. Not only are they beautiful and unique, they are very personal. A delightful respite from the cutesy (and overpriced) stuff you see every year from Hallmark. This one is way up there on my favorites list. I love to colors and patterns - it would make a great stained glass window. Which gives me an idea... ;-D Hope you and yours have a wonderful Holiday Season, my friend!
