Description

Note: Helle's been encouraging me to return to traditional media, so I finally made her a drawing. This is ink, watercolor, gouache & white chalk, but my scanner made it look a bit metallic: Sorry: I couldn't correct it, my scanner's just plain old!
* * *
Helle tells me, sometimes, that I praise her too much. I keep saying, "but it's the truth!" But, to give in to her demands, I decided to start my dedi like this: "Frankly? Helle's the worst artist I've ever known! She can't draw, she can't paint, her photos drive me crazy, she photographs way too many mushrooms, she does reeeeeally weird abstracts, and not only that...she owes me 5 bucks!"
(Ba-da-boom!)
Did I tell you? It doesn't work! Awright: You couldn't ask for a better friend than Helle! I met her in 2D, two & 2/3 years back, we became friends, she's supported me through thick & thin, always cared for my health & happiness, always encouraged my art, always been hysterically funny & sent me inspirations and art to fill a whole gallery. We all know she does wonderful paintings & drawings (watercolors, acrylics, pencils, inks, pastels, etc), beautiful photography & digital art, etc etc: But does that stop her? No: Helle could create are from gouda cheese, I swear, if that was all she had. She recently did some paintings with polyfilla---basically, spackling paste---and they were wonderful! She's a waterfall! And when she has a 'dry' period, just wait: All of a sudden she'll burst out with a whole new rain of wonders, and you'll wonder where she got all that inspiration from. She's a cornucopia of a friend. What's not to praise??? Helle, you've been a gift to me, you're a constant inspiration & support, and to call you 'gold' is a compliment to gold. I wish you a great birthday & many, many more. I'm so lucky to have you as a friend! Happy Birthday with all kinds of love & joy & inspiration galore---all of which you deserve! Mark
* * * I'm off to comment... Hope you're all having a fine holiday! Mark (More detailed if zoomed.)

It's a really wonderful robust blossom, full of life and energy, as if nothing could stop its growing, and I even see a face in it, two eyes and a long nose. And your dedi is as delightful. Full of humor, warmth, and your specialty ... love. :o) CC

OMG! Mark. Have you ever heard about the GOLDEN MEAN?? (BLUSH) LOL! I am so deeply touched, that you drew such a wonderful flower for me. I know you have been dancing around your Pencils and ink for a long time. Havent had peace enough for it. If this means, you now have enough peace in your mind for this, I am double happy. I hope this wonderful flower will grow to be more and more. You have such a great talent. Well you have many. MANY! Had I just half of your talents...WOW! But Mark, thank you so much for this lovely flower. Look at the graceful leaves it has and the burst of petals. So detailed and so thorough. Must have been a really hard work. Thank you ever so much for this gift. Not to mention your way too beautiful words about me. WHEEW! flutter! flutter!!

So glad to see this birthday dedi for Helle as she is one of my favorite people in the gallery, and no one is more deserving. Helle is multi talented and it was fun to read her response above. You really have outdone yourself here Mark with the delicate and detailed work in this drawing and topped it off with your own thoughts that made me smile :)

Ba-da-boom? Lovely creation, exquisitely done in your media of ink, watercolor, gouache & white chalk, in this wonderful birthday dedication to your friend, who I'm unfamiliar with, Mark. And, I also have an old scanner, and hardly use it anymore. Danapommet does the best scanner work I've seen yet on Rendo.

This is marvelous! It has such character and liveliness! I expect it to turn it's head (or maybe shake the petals from its eyes) and start to talk to me. And I would swear I saw a stem inch toward the frame. (I had to look up gouache with a sinking feeling that I had done so before) There is such a wonderfully light, and airy feeling to it, full of motion. Excellent dedication for Helle (well, the second one) and fully deserved. Her work is a continual delight, and covers such a wide array of styles and techniques, all masterly done. Happy Birthday, Helle!

The Chrome Chrysanthmum--sounds like a spy name or a whodunnit title...when in reality it's a wonderful drawing! Well done, Mark!

A wonderful dedication to Halle and you couldn't have captured her better with your words, she is a great friend. A beautifully created flower, I think it is a crysanthemom with its beautiful head and I rather like the metallic look as it looks as if you have carved it in copper.

A beautiful gift for Helle and I am SO glad she encourages you to keep up with drawing. It's what made me look at your work more closely and look what happened! I love this; it's simple and detailed at the same time and has an element of motion as well. Just a wonderful piece of work, not to mention a very special dedication.

This is such a perfect dedication to one of my favorite artists here; I laughed when I read what you wrote, and I felt profound respect and gratitude as well. I'm always amazed at what Helle shows the world too, and she even makes ticks on a lizard look nice (well, nice to LOOK at. I doubt the lizard actually thinks of such passengers as anything pleasant.) I whole-heartedly agree with Marilyn, too...there is a sense of motion in this: I see something of a dance, or at least vigorous and lively growth, and I love the exquisite details, especially the shading and the incredible lines that look more etched than drawn. This is marvelous, and quite a touching dedication. It's superb work on every level, and even a wonky age-challenged scanner has been put to great use. I enjoy this immensely. And since I am so typically me, I like the fact that I can see a rather intriguing alien offering greetings just in the overall shape of this deliciously detailed blossom. This is exquisite!

I know you're into jazz and classical, but I didn't put you down as a metal-head! Great composition and technique - I'm agog at the incredible range of your talents... I'm very much with Helle - you should do more traditional art. (Hey, don't you have access to the time between the time...?)

But I think you're scanner created a treasure! I don't mean that it wasn't a treasure before you scanned it, but I think it added something. I like that sort of metallic quality! I love the flower. I love the dimension you've acheived. Truly you are one very talented person. I hope you upload more of your non-digital works. A lovely and delightful and sweet dedication, too.
