My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

An interesting contrast. The older one is quite high enough at seven! They really paid attention to detail in the past.

Love that old building, it looks even better next to the new one! And of course your postwork gives it soul!

Lovely shot. I see the ladder on the old but none on the new.

Fascinating contrast in textures and thoughts

That would be The Newmark Building on 2nd and Pike. David used to live there.

The artistic ironwork and brickwork on the Eitel caught my eye the moment I saw this image. Like the composition and contrasting styles. Imagine how the building codes have changed since the Eitel was built 106 years ago! Wow:*

The craftsmanship on the older balconies is beautiful. It is nice being able to compare the two. I prefer the older style but the newer style definitely looks more safe. To me older buildings have such character and elegance while more modern structures are sterile in their appearance. Just a matter of personal taste.

Great shot I guess the old balconies were fire escapes the new ones are for living only.. now way down out of the new building if it catches fire lol..

Excellent and interesting capture! :)

The colour of the older building has warmth, the modern one a colder grey and blue... Hmm... deep thoughts... I really like the contrast of the architecture, Clive

Fascinating contrast between the new and the old. I find it interesting how the newer buildings lack the decorative elements of the older ones. It's sad, really. Don't they study artistic design in architecture, these days? I guess not. Excellent capture, Tara!

Fine shot!!

I can understand why you had problems with the new building. Every floor looks the same, there is nothing to distinguish the outside. Even a quick look at the older building shows each floor has its own distinctive features. Excellent composition showing the contrasts.

Very beautiful balconies, but not any I would dare to step out on :-D Excellent shot too.

Cool shot Tara! I love the juxtaposition between the old and new. Very nice! Happy New Year!

The thing about those old fashioned iron verandas is you have to wear shoes when you stand on them. Otherwise they really hurt your feet. But I love them. I love this shot as well. The POV is what makes it, and your postwork is so subtle...there's a faint glow to things that really works well here, and it washes the whole image in a sort of dreaminess, which is good, and I'm incredibly glad to see that Seattle has smoker's verandas! Yeah! Great juxtapositions and a wonderful urban vibe. This is great stuff. Happy New Year to you! As Victor said to me: I hope the new year brings you everything your destiny forgot to give you in the old year. Okay, he said it in Victorese, and so I had to do a bit of translation, but that's the gist of it. Happy New Year!
