Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

I love a good sunset and there are some good ones when you're far enough west in Chicago to keep most of Chicago out of the way. This is a perfect example of that. Skies are so dramatic around here in spring and summer and I love the fiery intensity of this. I love that you even left the angled eaves of your back porch in this...it lets me know exactly where you were standing, because I often lean over the railing in that spot in order to capture a great snap of one of the almost-frequent 777s that thunder overhead. They don't fly by often, but when they do, you feel it. I just love a passenger-liner airplane with enough legroom for beanpoles like me, Victor, or even Pavl, even though Pavl is only 5'11 or something like that. But anyway, back to this shot. I love the curdled sky, it's almost buttermilk, or whatever they'd call those bubbly, boiling cloud formations, and the color is nicely dramatic: I guess since Chicago is built on flat, flat land, we don't have big ol' mountains getting in the way and causing weather to make U-Turns and detours. As a result of this, you get super shots like this and on top of it all, it's a great dedication. Your dad really liked one of the shots I took of a Catalpa tree...I won't go into all of the details behind THAT but suffice it to say, anybody who likes Catalpa trees is pretty effin cool in my book. So there. I love this shot. And congratulations on 201 posts. I look forward to 201 more posts by the end of 2011.

Gorgeous! This bumps up nicely against your Tangerine series, and makes me think of Marmalade Skies. A beautiful dedi for your Dad. I send my thanks along to him for introducing you to photography all those years ago. If it weren't for that, I never would have had the pleasure of meeting you!

Gorgeous dedication to Dad Corey! Stunning colors and love the POV. I'm with Chip, I love that you left the part on the left (ha!) - adds to the POV. Very cool!

Storms can do some truly fantastic things to light especially in the early evening when the sun is low. In this shot the air itself seems to be glowing in the left over energy.

A gem of a capture. I have nearly something similar in my portfolio. One of my first uploads when i just started with photography in 2006. Used a 3mp Kodak point and shoot digital camera at that time.I just love the colors of the sky.
