Description

Who remembers the 1977 hit by Plastic Bertrand 'CA PLANE POUR MOI', from Belgium ? So what has he got to do with Bertie the beetle, which I had found just hanging around my garden? - upside down and on his back - 'moi' to the rescue, of course ! ... and he went straight back on to work, the first pic: shows him inspecting a nice piece of wood and with a 'heave-ho' he turned it over and now he's got himself a great lounge seat (pic 2) ... Bertie is the king of the divan! singing to myself now: ca plane pour moi - I am the king of the divan! ca plane pour moi, moi, moi ... Cheers *BB*

Very nice macro Brigitte. I'm old enough but don't know the song maybe more popular in your area??? Just don't let him get his hooks into you.

Great captures of this super strong beetle. He was probably glad of the rest after heaving that wood over. Maybe he is going to use it for a raft in case of more flooding! I love being able to see all his details so clearly.

Beetles serve a useful purpose in the world. They munch fungi, other invertebrates, and adroitly tackle the chores of cleaning up plant and animal debris. This guy is obviously a gourmet of fine wood. Bon appetit. I couldn't recall "Plastic Bertrand" so I looked it up. Now I remember hearing this on a few occasions. For those not familiar with it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VE45LlwTvc The age of instant lookups is quite amazing. Superb photos dearest Brigitte.

Your picture of Bertie took me back to my childhood. We would find beetles on the school playground and play with. The little ones would tickle as they tried to push past our closed fingers. I've liked beetles ever since. You've beautifully captured an excellent specimen. The details are stunning.
