Description

Several weeks ago I finally got to see "Tron Legacy" on the big screen (and if you're going to see it, the big screen is highly recommended!) and I've been surprised at just how much I've been inspired by the visual esthetic. Not so much to imitate the look of this latest movie, but it got me to go back and re-watch the original, which inspired me a great deal. I like the look of the new one, it's got an elegance to it, and everything is glassy and semi-transparent and glowing in fascinating ways, but the original used the lights to highlight shape, create textures in ways that the new one doesn't, and I rather like the effects they created with those glowing lines in the original (But then, if you've seen my Xmas-paper postings, you probably already know how fascinated I am by textures) At any rate, I have dabbled around with my own textures for use in Bryce to get some of that look from the original "Tron" and in the course of playing around I ended up with this. It doesn't work as a texture, but tiling it on my computer background works really well... The lines were mostly done in Adobe Illustrator CS3, which can do alot of the layering and transparency effects that Photoshop can do, so it gets really fun when you have overlapping patterns. I ended up re-coloring this in Photoshop, and enhanced the contrast a bit more, too. Anybody who likes it and wants to play with it, either as a texture in their 3D programs, or use it as a backdrop, you have my permission to play, all I ask is if you do use it, toss a little credit my way, and we'll call it even! Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

Superb, Mike! Love your textures, my friend! If I ever figure out what I'm doing in Bryce.... I've got a week of vacation this week - I hope to go see that new Tron! Awesome work as always!
