Description

We don't know how many are dead. 75 are confirmed, with 300 missing, but nobody knows. Trying to save the living counts more at the moment than counting the dead. Of course the Australians are already here, helping to stretch our capacity. Others are on their way, from many parts of the world. We really need all the help we can get. The Cathedral is Wrecked. People in The Press building on the other side of the Square have been rescued. One known dead there. I mention The Press because many years ago I got my first job as a reporter for that newspaper. I worked on the same floor, probably in the same room as those people. But it's just a small vignette. Anyway, Kiwis do cope. What else is there to do? For the first time in our history, a state of national emergency has been declared.

People also shouldn't forget how many of the disasters of today have their roots in the people, human beings. How ruthless can human beings be? Just to balance things out, the antonyms for "ruthless" are often the nature of the Nature, too, contrary to human beings: kind, sparing and gentle, while human beings are not so kind, sparing and gentle towards the nature and all living things. Of course, a very sad occurrence this was indeed. I fear there is more to come, though: stopping overpopulation would help.

NZ has been hit hard recently, when I heard of this latest I wondered about The Ring of Fire and the recent Solar Activity. It seems seismic activity is increasing drasticaly over the past couple of decades, I fear a Major shift in Continental Plates that will change the face of the entire Planet. Be safe my friend Peace

I am very glad to see your post today, The image is wonderful on its own, but it helps confirm everyone I know in NZ is still safe. Your country has had more than its share of disaster in the past year.

It gives extra pain to know that 'your' section is also affected. I knew that you do not live near Christchurch. Nevertheless, my thoughts and prayers are with all the people there. It's terrible. It seems to be one disaster after another. Thanks for posting this and for your message. The fractal is very special, sending hope to you my friend.

A wonderful fractal to show the violence that the earth can thrust upon us. Excellent work and I hope you haven't lost anyone that you know. There have been so many near misses and miracles haven't there. It will be a long time before the city is rebuilt.
