Description
Swan Lake (For Rodolfo Ciminelli) This dedication is for Rodolfo (Rodolfo Ciminelli), a very dear friend of mine. We have been friends for a long time, and he is one of the kindest and most caring artists in the gallery. Rodolfo uses the (Poser program) to create amazing works of art. He produces many dedications for his friends, and his art is beautiful, and inspiring. Please take time to visit his gallery, it is a true treasure. Rodolfo shared several stories with me about living in Argentina, and this one seemed so adorable. Hope my friends enjoy his story as much as I did. God bless my friends who are sick and in pain.
The year was 1957 in the city of General Jose San Martin, in Argentina where our story begins. Rodolfo was 9 years old and spent most of his time with his friend Yolanda and her family. This day Yolanda had a special surprise for everyone, because she had been taking ballet lessons and wanted to show what she had learned. Yolanda had a older sister Teresa that assisted them. Teresa and her Mom Giordana found an old wooden crate, and moved it to the back yard. Rodolfo helped her family bring their cats and dogs, to provide her with many admirers. Yolanda dressed in her tutu, and came outside to greet her fans. There was no beautiful music, no fancy lighting, but she had the most important thing of all. The love and support of her family and her best friend Rodolfo. So on that small stage in their back yard, Yolanda gave the performance of her life, and recieved lots of applause. Rodolfo has loved this memory all of these years, because sometimes it is the simple things in life that are the best.

It is the simple things in life that are priceless!!!! This image and dedication is also priceless. Your ability to bring a story to life is uncanny and your dedication to all your friends is admirable. You have always taken the time to visit so many galleries and leave a kind word of inspiration in the hearts of every artist you have touched. You posses a magic that cannot be reproduced by any means. I love this image!

Well once again I come to your gallery after a long absence. I usually wait a bit before I sit with one of your works (after a long absence), because I want to be "fluent," because there is always so much going on in your works & because you create with such total humanity & love. Yes, another magical childhood moment: We've all had these moments when we did something all by ourselves & without the aids we were used to, yet we did it magically---almost perfectly---because we were held aloft by the love of others. What's wonderful, in this image, is that you create that love with relatively few people---this isn't a crowd (Rodolfo's story didn't have a crowd, and you're always wholly loyal to your friends' story)---and with the surrounding nature as well. With Yolanda's viewers, your magic is---as it always is---in the details. Everyone has such complex & human poses, and such naturalness in your choice of poses. For example: Giordana sits, but has one leg out & the other bent-in; her torso bends ever so slightly to her left while her head faces to her right. A subtle but complex pose. This can sound middling to people who don't do this type of art, but to a 3D artist or anyone who's drawn from real life, it's all very important. You have a way, Dave, of capturing people engrossed in someone, yet their bodies remain fluid, complex & very human. You've done her clothes so well, her shadows ditto; even the gentle touch of one thumb over the cat's head, with nail polish on it! See, to an artist, that kind of detail is wonderful! You don't "need" those touches, but you put them in because you care about the small things that make us human. And the cat looks like a cat, its legs aren't "regular," his ears point in slightly different ways, and its expression is involved and yet...he's still a cat. Ie, he still looks partly absorbed in something else. It's real life... Yet Giordana, Teresa & Rodolfo are totally involved with Yolanda: Giordana looks on like a genuine mother; Teresa looks on joyfully, but she's also serious, like she's gone over the dance steps with her sister before & is watching every move (as another dancer might). (I don't know if Teresa danced, but she looks at her sister as if she had.) And look at the other detail: The emblem on Teresa's shirt, sunken in shadow as it should be; the emblem on Rodolfo's shirt; the wonderful flare on Rodolfo's shorts; the 'skew' of his feet, etc etc. Nothing's "posed" here, it's just very human, people taken from their day to get absorbed in a wonderful moment. Even the strand of hair over Teresa's face...a really nice touch. And then the dogs: True to dogs, they're absorbed, anxious, wanting to join in---one's right at the crate eager to join Yolanda in her dance. And if one looks closely, they'll see how you treat each leg differently, capture the complexity of their postures, sitting or standing. And the dog under Rodolfo's arm looks anxious to run up and start playing or barking: He's filled with energies he has to contain because he's being held back by humans. Great work. Then the grass...it's bright, with lots of sunlight & lighter strains, you have fine contrast in that wonderful blue doghouse (with the big bone across the doorway!), the tree, bowl, stairs in the background, etc...and finally, Yolanda: She appears to be aiming for "en pointe," one of those dance positions that young ballet students suffer with madly (ie, where they stand entirely on your toes); and she's arched back reaching for the stars. I can tell you, having grown up around ballet students (while I was studying classical piano), I would peek in the dance studios on my way to my lessons, and see these young people twist and turn and hold postures that most people would go crazy from, and thinking: "There's no way you'll get me to do that!" I felt lucky to suffer with Beethoven compared to that, lol. Above all, Yolanda is joyous, involved in her dance but soaking in the love around her. And that is the highlight of the piece. So once again, you've brought to life a childhood moment with amazing detail & equal love, and made another person's memories merge with our own. It's open, clear, clean and joyous. And, with your constant eye for the small things that make up love, you've once again celebrated that love isn't just about the huge gestures & momentous events, but about the magic of a tiny gesture & the way the whole universe can suddenly appear through a single event. Just wonderful, loving and you to a tee. Wonderful to be back here again, Dave!

I had been looking at your gallery and for a moment I was surprised at how many months have passed and I totally missed your last work. You don't post too often and I did not know I owed you a comment for a long time and here you had been commenting on mine. Quite inforgiveable for me, as you are one of the most wonderful people I've met here and your writing and composition is one of the best as it tackles one's precious memories of childhood. There was no post that you made that did not touch my heart, some were similar to my own childhood stories. So, even if it's late, I apologize. And thank you for sharing all these beautiful stories, it is a good reminder that all of us here, once, we all had been kids and we all have all these beautiful, unforgettable times of our childhood.
