Description

...Well, you know the rest, I suppose. NASA has been doing some fascinating studies on the really active star-forming regions, which look quite pretty but are actually very dangerous places to visit. Those massive hot stars are up to 80 times the size of our own sun, and burn so hot some of the won't even last a billion years. But when they form, live, and ultimately die they produce some of the most amazing visual treats we could ever imagine. Having been inspired by the wonderful photos that are being gathered (pictures taken across a wide range of the electromagnetic spectrum - another wonderful ability we've acquired only in the last 20 years) I wanted to once again push a nebula to new heights, as it were. This was made entirely within Photoshop, it features almost a dozen layers of stars, many times more layers of samplings from various photographs of actual clouds I've taken over the years, and a few more layers for the brilliant star in the middle. All told: 56 layers. That may be a new record for me. Thanks for taking a look and have a good evening everyone!

Fantastic, Mike! Not only is the image just intense, but the fact that you can keep track of 56 layers puts me in awe! I get confused with 10! LOL! Yeah, some of the images provided by NASA are utterly amazing.

Another great starscape! That's a lot of layers, but it really adds a lot of depth. And those 80 solar mass stars don't last more than five million years before they go boom and make more pretty nebulae...
