Description

It is often thought that lilacs are found in profusion only in cultivated conditions. This is not true. I have come upon lilac groves of more than 500 square meters in size, in natural environments. I have never seen a natural lilac grove in mixed colors although that would indeed be a beautiful sight (although probably not as fragrant). The ones I have seen have been either dark purple (the subject of today’s rendering) or white. Dark purple is by far the most fragrant and therefore my favorite because I am simply rapt by fragrant flowers (even the stinky ones like henbane). If there is a lilac grove around, you can locate it by the fragrance alone. Lilacs (particularly purple lilacs) have one of the most powerful scents of any flower. You can smell a lilac grove from more than half a mile away. A mature lilac grove will consist of bushes up to ten feet high and walking through the explosion of color and fragrance is like a trip through paradise. I once sat down in the middle of such a grove (a purple one) and ate my lunch. A very simple repast was transformed into a king’s banquet. I fell asleep thereafter and dreamed of Elysian Fields. And just think; I was being PAID for this (and knowing this particular client, I am sure he would not have minded a bit). Created in Ultra Fractal using a morphed lambda power quaternion

the swirls in this are wonderful and I love the coloring! I thought of frosting, too... but I'm hungry. :) I love lilacs! I have two rows of them along side my house and a stone walkway passes through them. there is a mixture of two different shades of purple but no white ones have been planted yet. maybe I'll mix in a white one this year in your honor. :)

This is a wonderful rendition of lilacs Stan. We have 3 huge lilac bushes just outside our back door. The growing season for them is so short here they tend to come into full flower shortly after the snow leaves in late May. At present everything is still dormant as the snow is more than waist deep and temps are in the -15C range as a high. Seeing your images of such sights and those that post post pictures of their gardens helps us hold onto the hope of spring.

If you could send them the scent, it could very well suit your fractal of today. It represent the lilac, as your very fine story completely.

You have captured the essence of the lilac tree in this wonderful fractal. They really are the most beautiful shrub and I would love to be able to walk through a whole lot of them when they were in flower, the scent would be glorious. No wonder you went to sleep and had marvellous dreams.

I can smell the lilacs in your beauifully lit image. We don't grow them because it's not cold enough in winter. But they do grow in the South Island, but never as fragrant as the cooler climate ones.

Lilac's are very pretty flowers and smell so nice. (ours are the purple one's). When I was way younger some of us would take a small piece of the petal and suck the sweet nectar from it. Your fractal is awesome Stan, fantastic colors and lighting. I really enjoyed reading your text too!! Thanks again for sharing Stan.
