Description

Silver tray and chafing dish, backlit through the kitchen window last fall at the Kansas house. It wasn't midnight ... actually, it was broad daylight. Amazing what one can do with camera settings! .......... We're still working through a list of things to do that would choke a horse! We sold the house in Kansas and the deal closed, so we're moving along with our plans to do a bit of traveling. Right now we're looking for a car to tow behind the motorhome, and it's not much fun! Our top choices aren't working out (too much money, none available, not towable, don't have air), so we're going to start looking at second-tier vehicles tomorrow morning. Right this minute Bill and I are sitting at the kitchen table in the motorhome with our laptops. We're camping in the driveway! It's the best place to stay when what you want to do is make a list of things you forgot at home. (Mandy seems to like camping, btw. We brought her bowls and her favorite blanket, and she's settled right in.) It feels like we'll never get out of here. We can't really go on an extended trip without a tow vehicle! I mean ... we could go with just the motorhome ... but it's really annoying to go to the grocery store for a quart of milk when your only transportation is plugged into electricity and water and sitting up on jacks and you've got the slides out! Anyway. I might be scarce around here for a while longer. I've looked at a lot of images this evening and commented on a few, but nowhere near as much as I'd like. If there's something you wanted me to see in particular and I haven't left a comment, would you please bring it to my attention? I'd hate to miss something you were hoping I would see!

Very mysterious, almost spiritual. The shine on the plate looks like water. A baptismal font? An ancient pagan vessel? Or maybe its just a silver tray and a chafing dish. Anyway you look at it, its extremely well done. I am very excited for you and Bill. Perhaps I'll see you in the wind.

My first though was that this was a space station... I think I'm reading too much scifi. Your travel plans sound wonderful - oh how I would love to set off on the road right now. Have you thought of getting bicycles?

A favorite silver tray. What a neat rendering...take two shiny objects plus one camera plus creative thinking...process almost everything in the camera using manual settings and here you have it! Very, very cool result:)

Oh I just love camera settings! This is a fantastic example of the day-for-night shots that Hollywood never gets right: they always turn out blue. It sounds like you're dealing with more fun stuff than I am and that's a good thing...I've been (and will be for a week or so yet) a bit scarce around here too: slammed with work and packing to move to another place (yet again, but still in Chicago...ugh.) Anyway, this is a fantastic and deliciously moody piece of work.

That's a lovely shot, it's fascinating what it reveals, and what is implied in the shapes. One of my favorite photos I've seen in a long time!

Very swanky! love the day for night detailing here. Aren't filters fun? Hmmmmmm. As much as I'm an American car loyalist, I have to admit that when it comes to used ( or new for that matter ), you can't do better than a Honda or Toyota. My parent's 94 Civic has over 250,000 miles on it and is still going strong. Which, unfortunately, is more than I can say than their 99 Olds. Anyway, that's my two cents as a car geek. I'd love to be able to travel the way you guys do, sounds like a lot of fun!

I'm amazed at the amount of detail in what looks at first glance to be a very minimalist image. The magic of light and dark - and you've made it work to perfection, Tara. As usual! Brilliant, my dear friend! Hope you have better luck finding a tow-along. I've often thought about that problem.... You get all set up at a campsite, then you realize you need something at the store. Or you quite simply just wish to explore the area in something a little easier to park! That's always been a dream of mine - to just travel, and enjoy exploring the country with no real agenda. Looking forward to photos from both of you as you chronicle your adventures!
