Description

While we were in Aruba, every time we turned around, there was this tall land formation. Everyone that we talked to said that it could be seen from anywhere in Aruba. Now comes the fun part. Some swore that it is the volcano that formed Aruba way back in the beginning and it is called, the Hooiberg, which translates, from Dutch, as Haystack mountain. The rest say it is Mount Yamanota at 617 feet (188.1 meters) and assured us that it is not a volcano. Zoom if it helps. Taken from the top of the ship, as we left port. With all the time spent in Google - it is Mt Yamanota and not a volcano. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

A fantastic shot. I love the beach, the water so blue, and of course 'de Hooiberg', which is such a funny name. It can't be a volcano, as I see there are buildings on it ;-)

Good heavens, a mountain with a Japanese name in Aruba? Where's the connection? That said, a cool shot of the quasi volcano, Dana. Climbing to the top or flying over it and looking down at its surface area would indicate if it's a volcano or not.

Funny how no one wants to think of it as a volcano and all that that implies. It certainly looks like a volcano. We have so many of them in New Zealand, mostly extinct but some aren't and I guess they are all capable of coming to light at some stage. A lovely capture.

Great capture of this landscape and mountain, Dana! As far as I can see on the "net" and by the pure look of this mountain on an overall flat island, it looks like to be a volcano! If it is an old now inactive volcano, very eroded, any trace of a crater on the top can be completely gone. Maybe others know something? :o]
