Description
Captured 6/12/10, at the Centennial Aviation Day celebration, held on the grounds of the beautiful Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum in Carson, California.
Well, the intrepid ground crew got this beautiful beastie just about fully inflated, and everything seemed A-OK for business, but then, alas, after some determination, the whole venture was called off due to wind conditions. Wind conditions? I didn't feel no wind conditions from where I was standing! Shocking, indeed. But, of course, I wasn't there trying to keep the balloon steady, either. So, after all that admirable sweat and toil, the mission was unceremoniously aborted. Sorry about that folks! Maybe next time! Shades of a Space Shuttle launch! The fate of the Hindenburg and Titanic slowly came to mind as I stood there, deeply disappointed, as were many of the people on the scene, their hopes dashed.
The last photo shows the giant balloon slowly tipping over and sinking, breathing a dying gasp.
Finally, don't ask me to explain the ratty effects at the top of fotos #1, 3 and 4 -- if nothing else, it's embarrassing and looks like hell. Probably postwork gone awry.
Adieu, thankx for the visit, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

That's too bad they didn't get off the ground...but better safe than sorry. Beautiful balloons...they would have been a site to see up there. Great photos of them harry!

Great way to finish this series up Harry, and a shame it didn't get to take off

Well, looking at the old wind sock on picture 1, there was very little wind! But as you say, who are we mere mortals to say! lol Great shots again mate! Rob

Unhappy ending. The close-up shot (Nb.2) is terrific. It's a shame about the top of the other photos, but still a very neat collage.

Oh, how disappointing! I was hoping to see it going up up and away into the blue skies...as were a lot of others, too apparently...still, an excellent finish to the photographic story, despite the rogue pixelations in the shot. Maybe the data card was damaged or corrupted? Who can tell...I'm always amazed to get any shots at all that look decent!

What a shame they weren't able to get it launched but you did get some great shots of it so all was not lost and I'm sure all who came to watch were quite happy just to see it too. A super collage.

I like the entire sequence. Takes a lot of teamwork to get this sort of flying accomplished. The action is fun to watch!
