Concept created 5/26/05, employing Bryce, Poser and Photoshop. Better viewed full size. The USS Kidd (DD-661), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named for Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who died on the bridge of his flagship USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Admiral Kidd was the first US Navy flag officer to die during World War II. The ship not only served with distinction in WWII, but also during the Korean conflict. Namesake: Isaac C. Kidd Builder: Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Kearny, New Jersey Laid down: 16 October 1942 Launched: 28 February 1943 Commissioned: 23 April 1943 Decommissioned: 19 June 1964 Struck: 1 December 1974 Honors and awards: 12 Battle Stars Fate: Serves as part of the Louisiana Veterans Memorial.
