Description

-From "The Travels of Martin Leftwick, Wanderer and Observer" a popular post-war biographer: Sometimes you might think that Vanguard Industries is the only major company producing ships for use in space. It's an easy feeling to have, as it seems like so many of their ships are always around. But there are other players, some larger than others to be sure. Hyde-Dynamics is one of the larger "other players" in the field. They've focused on niches that they can control, and used that as a means for establishing the stability necessary to expand into other markets. All while producing vessels that work well within their constraints. One of my stops featured nice scattering of asteroids and minor-planets, and its access to other stars meant that it became a busy hub for the post-war expansion of human space. There were a number of stations here, some devoted to the traffic passing through, some providing the raw materials, or manufacturing the tools to support said traffic. My own curiosity made me wish to see these lesser-known places where men and women pursued the less glamorous but vital tasks each day. And so I got to see this interesting passenger transport. It was built in a way that theoretically could allow it to also function as an interstellar ship with only a few modifications, but mostly was marketed for local and shorter distance traffic. While I found myself wishing it had more windows to the outside, it was a comfortable and reasonably spry ship that moved us all where we needed to go efficiently and comfortably. Perhaps it wasn't quite as glamorous, but it certainly did its job well; and what more do you really need from a ship? ---------- Another new ship built along similar lines I've done before. Assembled, textured, and rendered in Bryce 6. Hull texture is a new one from me, while the "framework" parts are all one of the presets. The planet is a composite of an element also rendered in Bryce, and then edited (heavily) in Photoshop. Compositing and other post work all done in Photoshop as well.

Your ships never fail to just amaze me! Fantastic as always, Mike! The amount of detail in this is mind boggling - this HAS to be seen full size to get a feel for tha complexity. Stupendous work!

I like that planet. Interesting history in this one too. That ship kinda reminds me of the inside of the upper stage of the Apollo rockets.

I really like this! It has such a deliciously functional look to it, and I love your ambient vacuum lighting as well. You do this whole ambient space thing incredibly well (and the Nemaeans love your lighting techniques.) The more I look at your gallery here and the offerings like this one, the more I can actually imagine a whole book full of these in the spirit of those Terran Trade Authority Handbooks that were so popular in the early 1980s. They were different and more garish in style and overall content, but the whole feeling of a coherent, interstellar society was incredibly strong and wonderfully detailed (though at times contradictory.) This is a definite step up from that and it seems as if someone actually from that world (in the general sense) has stepped forward, offered this image and text to us, and then went back about his normal day-to-day interstellar routine. Marvelous. This is really great and as I slowly catch up, I'll probably revisit this one a few times.

A very plausible use of modular components in a spaceship design

Truly far,far out! Some of the best ship modeling I've seen here, regardless of program. That you can create these ships within Bryce itself always amazes me.
