Description

In the decades prior to the development of the Rephi Portals the nations of Earth were finally making a more concerted push to develop space. The establishment of mining and manufacturing on the Moon made the next steps easier, and it was surprisingly quick that a colony on mars was initiated. The first settlers were moved by one of Vanguard Industries' "SolEx" line of ships, but before the second wave was even organized a variant of the SolEx was produced specifically to move passengers to and/or from Mars. This ship was christened "Mars-1" to indicate that it was only the first of a series. These ships were in fact so successful that even after the Rephi Portals made the trip much faster and easier they remained in service for many decades more. A tribute to the designers who not only worked to produce an effective ship, but planned for it to be in operation for many long years indeed. -------------- Ship was modeled in Bryce 6, and is really just a re-configured version of an earlier post. Most of the textures are presets, but I did modify the main hull texture somewhat. Postwork includes compositing the starscape/nebula and the picture of Mars came from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter website. Thanks for taking a look everyone, and comments, critiques and suggestions are definitely encouraged!

I like the ship it's different. The colour balance and the planet are really good and the colour of your starscape pushes the ship out. very well done :)

Would love to see a manned exploration of Mars in my lifetime. Nice job blending the ship into the starscape and planet.

Nice work on the model ( really like the engine exhaust effects) Any postwork or compositing is spot on. And yes i recently discovered nasa freebie media textures and 3d models.

NASA really should hire you to illustrate their projected space missions.Your ships are that good. Full size view is a must for this.

That's a fine rocket model. Like the "subdued" Mars but wonder if it would really look that washed out? Sorry to be a late in making comments. The healing goes on faster than expected but longer than wished for.
