Description

Another attempt to make a realistic portrait. This time I wanted the image to be all about the character, so I just concentrated on the face. The base character is almost the same as in my previous image, but I modified it to duit the purposes of this image better, and, hopefully, to make the face and expression more realistic. As this is an exercise in a Carrara-generated realistic portrait, all comments and critique are very welcome. The only postwork here is pass compositing, DOF and the background, which was rendered as flat color out of Carrara and replaced with a painted one in Photoshop, using Carrara generated masks. Please critique. I would greatly appreciate some tips for improvement and peer critique for this one. Thank you! UPDATE: Thank you, Mark! I followed your suggestions to the best of my understanding. Hopefully it worked in making the image more realistic.

Nice work! Where you've done some post work on the hair, try blurring the single hair strands a bit or use this as an excuse to get a tablet so you can use some pressure sensitive brushes for super fine stroke finishes. The thick individual, in-focus strands screams retouch. The photos you are compositing have a little visual noise/graininess in them. This is not present in the 3D work that is composited. As a last step, while you have the composite in layers, add some monochromatic noise in Photoshop to better integrate the photo and CG elements.

hair, face, expression, pose, skin, light, all perfect. They eyes have expression - however, (and I could be off here) I think they eyes need to look a little more reflective in the center, more watery. I don't know if it would help to have a light just the eyes and have the eyes more reflective - outside the scope of my ability
