Description

-From "The Travels of Martin Leftwick, Wanderer and Observer" a popular post-war biographer: It is a fortunate time to be alive, and more importantly, traveling in space. Decades have passed since the end of "Humanity's First Interstellar War" and the optimism and growth has continued to speed up. Perhaps it's a desire to spread so widely any conflict couldn't possibly risk it all, perhaps it's just a biological imperative, or maybe we're just doing what we've always done: looked to our horizons and wondered "what's over there?" No matter the reasons, I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel about and watch this unfolding excitement grow into something that now seems like an avalanche that will run its course no matter what lies in the way. Our ship paused here in what was really just a delay as we waited our turn to pass through the next Portal, and I couldn't help notice that another station was being assembled in orbit around another icy and rocky world, which could either mean research, terraforming, or perhaps just a way-station for traveling ships and crews. Given the nature of this world, I suspect that there will soon be yet another terraforming project as humanity seeks to add ever more cradles for our future generations. It is a good time to be an explorer. ----------- The station was modeled in Bryce 6, using mostly textures of my own creation, but most of the "framework" type structures are using simple preset textures. The planetoid was made in Photoshop, as was the starfield and nebula clouds. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions are definitely encouraged. Thanks for taking a look!

This is marvelously good and holds a sense of newness and excitement; when I look at this image, I can image that new space station smell which is--of course--fully subjective, but immensely satisfying. I love the overall sense of scale and color and the implications of both vastness (of space itself) and intimacy (of life/future life) within the station itself. Really marvelous, evocative work as always. Superb!
