Description

-More Excerpts From "The Travels of Martin Leftwick, Wanderer and Observer" a popular post-war biographer: This was my favorite visit on my long tour of space. Transfer Station Secundia is a really dull name, but the view I got as my shuttle approached had me captivated, and luckily I retained enough presence of mind to get some quick photo-captures before we turned and I lost this view. Below us is the second planet that orbits a dull star, but it's small size belies its usefulness: A low gravity rocky body rich in metals and some good-sized pockets of ice. A busy place that generates a great deal of material for this stop-over for the ever expanding reaches of human settlement. I'm amazed that even when in pursuit of the most utilitarian functions we humans, often unintentionally, always seem to craft some truly spectacular vistas. This station uses the benefits of the inflatable modules developed by Vanguard's research station, as well as gaining from the modular advantage of mass-produced components for a wild and complex structure. I got to spend a week amongst the hard-working crews that transfer to and from the worldlet below, and that is another fascinating story for perhaps another chapter if not a complete book in itself! -------------- And maybe someday I'll tackle the story I have in mind for those miners (Better yet: find a good writer like Chipka to tell it for me!) and what their lives are like. At any rate, this station was built using parts I've used before, and some newer objects as well. It's all done in Bryce 6, using primitives, and the hull materials are my own creations, while the framework elements are using preset materials. Background planet and stars were done in Photoshop, the nebula came from cloud photographs, and compositing, etc. also done in Photoshop. Thanks for taking a look, hope you all have had a good weekend, and as usual comments, critiques, and suggestions are definitely encouraged. Lately there's been an increase in helpful suggestions, which I really appreciate. The best way to learn is by gaining from the helpful expertise of others!

If you think about it, that would likely be a miserable experience living and working in such an inhospitable environment. Think about it, being crammed in a collection of tubes 24/7.

This is superb! I really like the gritty feel of this universe you're creating! The images are sleek, clean, and exquisitely gorgeous and the grittiness both implied and written adds an extra dimension to that gleaming grace: the fact that everything looks so incredibly functional as well is also an incredible bonus and I love the way you stick to facts but maintain creativity! I think that's what's lost in today's "real world." I love the gracefulness of this image and the idea that something like a "dead" and icy world can exist at the core of bustling human industry and activity. The lighting in this is especially well done, and the details on full zoom are marvelous! Thanks for the plug for my writing, but I honestly think that you've got what it takes to convey the stories of this universe quite well...I like the casual, almost conversational style. You don't burden us with indigestible lumps of exposition or ideological dogmas that stop a plot, and well...that's a fantastic thing! There's always so much humanity implied in your work as well, and I look forward to zillions more explorations. Oh, and while I'm at it, thanks for the Nemaean ships! They rock!

That's a great POV. I have to agree with everything that Chipka said above. You definitely can write very effectively about the universe you are creating. You don't need anybody else to do it for you.
