Description

Captured 7/31/10, at the American Civil War Reenactment, held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California. Much better viewed full size. Although there were stretcher bearers, I heard or read once that there was no section of the Army that was officially known as Medics during the Civil War, and that fellow soldiers -- buddies, if you will -- served in that capacity, providing first aid and comfort to the wounded. Incidentally, lots of amputations performed during that conflict. Be seein' ya, thankx for tuning in, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

Yikes, they didn't amputate anything while you were watching, did they? Another fine group of shots of this fascinating event, Harry. And some of those "wounded" look suspiciously like they're enjoying a bit of a rest in the action!

IIRC some quakers served in the army as stretcher bearers. While not believing in fighting, they chose an alternate, honorable, and necessary role.

It looks like the end is near in this battle. I was wondering how long this re-enactment actually lasted?

I'm glad to see that no amputations were performed in this re-enactment. Excellent captures of this big event.

Bring on the stretcher bearers! Not a job I'd fancy in any conflict Harry! Especially this one (or one like it!) Great series of shots, my friend.. Rob

Wonderful collage Harry and a great shot of the Union cannons. Interesting info on the lack of medics. Dana
