Description

[Please Zoom!] "Frak". Zoe muttered as she leaned on the bulkhead and fed shells into the still-warm shotgun. "Mal, when're you gonna learn other people don't take certain jobs for a reason?" She could still hear Malcolm the night he briefed them. "Simple as pie, a salvage operation. In there, out again with the crates, make a tidy little sum without so much as breaking sweat. Maybe find other ripe pickin's of our own in that wreck too." Well they got his precious crates on board, but then things went south fast. They damaged one of the containers while moving it and the oxygen in the loading dock must have... activated them. Now these - things - were all over the ship. Most of the other crew were sealed in one of the shuttles with Jane watching over them. But Mal was hiding somewhere in the aft utility spaces. She thought seriously about letting him sit and ponder back there for awhile - learn from his mistakes as it were. But Wash was back there too and that changed things considerably. Furtive scratching sounds from the hatch brought her back into the moment. She racked a shell and punched in the release code. Time to get back to work.

A quickie fun one for a much needed break. The set is Mapps' fabulous "Alien Infestation", one of many, many room configuration and other options in there. When I saw his "grunge" materials option I thought immediately of the interiors of transport and freight ships as depicted on "Firefly" - one of my all-time favorite shows. I wish I could do a decent job of dial-spinning. This is a weak imitation Zoe compared to the outstanding character created by the awesome Gina Torres! No postwork at all except for the logo. Gee, you do SF as well as you do fantasy, Larry. This is a brilliant image to go with your vivid writing. Your lighting really makes this scene come alive, building a sense of danger and tension. Bravo! And, I agree with you on all points about Firefly.
