When I first visited the Roches d'Oëtre twenty years ago, you used to be able to hear the grannies whooping on Sunday afternoons. This popular local sport involved taking granny out for lunch with copious amounts of wine, and then for a post-prandial family walk at the Roches. The sides of the gorge are alarmingly steep and granny, replete in floral dress, gleaming silver perm and Unsuitable Shoes, would stagger uncontrolled down the precipitate paths. Predictably, in her well lubricated condition, she would make unseemly screeching noises that would echo round the hillsides. All was good cheer, till it was time to get granny back up the hill, when the tense mutterings of tight-lipped concentration seeped into the woods as the whole family had to cajole, guide and just plain haul the dishevelled matron back up. These days, there is a visitor centre, wheelchair access and helpful signs with rather random health and safety information like “Water”. You can see it all on Google Earth. And the days of the whooping grannies are past. Saw these chaps fishing there last week. Dunno what they were trying to catch. Vue with C3D content including GillB plants and water, Quad rocks. Poser figures with painted waders and sweaters. Why, when I search on Rendo or anywhere else for waders for M3 or M4, do I get clothing only suited to lapdancers or leather fetishists? I mean, it's not like I searched for “impractical apparel for kinky ladies”. All I wanted was a man in rubber. Well ok maybe the search engine made an assumption.
