Description
This is a view of the renovated Venice, FL railroad station. A few years ago it was in pretty bad shape, but since it's rebirth it has become something of a tourist attraction.

Wonderful angle on this interesting bit of architecture! I love the arches and the squares, going off into the distance.

I really like this shot. I mean, really! It reminds me of artwork by M.C. Escher. One of his more famous pieces, "Castrovalva" springs to mind: there was also an episode of Doctor Who based on that drawing, called--creatively enough--Castrovalva in which reality (and time) looped and twisted and centered itself on a number of columns, archways, stairs, corridors, atria, gardens, and people in very strange hats. People would start their journeys somewhere, only to arrive back where they started, between 5 minutes and a day before they left. Both time and space were recursive. I like that feeling in this shot: it's not like temporal inertia coupled with temporal (and spatial) contraction, but it does seem to have a kind of playfully recursive "hall of mirrors" kind of quality, where people go to get lost, giggle, and experience the amazement of experiencing space/time whacked out of the normal "linear" configuration we take for granted. Needless to say I like that a lot! I can see how this became a tourist attraction, and it's such a nice shade of ocher/yellow too! This is a great shot and it's making a trip into my favorites.

It's always interesting to see a different take on the same subject. We all made pictures of this station, and they all came out differently. Love the composition, depth and color/shadow of this picture. How you caught Kate at just the right second as she turned around, and that glimpse of palm tree way out in the broiling heat that makes the shadows seem even cooler and more inviting. Wonderful shot!
