Description

These two children were playing under the light at the bowling alley. It reminded me of Star Trek. I really liked the strong light against the relative dark of the lobby. Thanks for your comments and suggestions!

Yeah, and if you look at those rectangular shapes (vents?) they resemble the classic view screens on the Enterprise bridge...only without cheesy pictures of graphs and lines. The best ones were always just above Mr. Spock's console, or Lt. Uhura's console...though I have no idea why the ship's telephone operator...um...I mean...Communications Officer would need a screen with a picture of the moon on it. Oh well...that's 60s Sci-Fi for you. This shot definitely has a nice stark quality to it...a bit like the starker stuff that popped up in Star Trek: Voyager at around the time 7-of-9 joined the crew in that silver catsuit she wore. And I have to say that this image definitely has that sort of high-tech sci-fi "Command Center" look to it...or maybe just a touch of the Death Star. I love the juxtaposition too...the colorful things (gifts?) are such a jarring contrast to the control center look of the place, and I have to say that it works really well. Oh, and if you look at the bar-type-seating area (at least that's what it looks like) you can definitely see more of that "control center" stuff going on...those white, curved-corner eating surfaces definitely look like they belong on a Galaxy Class starship and the logos/signs lined up all nice and neat also look like active data screens. This could easily be the USS Venice maybe? This is a great shot. Just put NCC- in front of the zip code there, and you've got a nifty ship's registry number to go with this scene! This is well seen and I love the starkness and contrasts. Oh and since I'm a big, giant, Star Trek nerd...did you know that no one in the original series or any of the spinoffs actually said: Beam me up, Scotty.? That's one of those things that made its way into Star Trek from either fans or people who didn't obsessively listen to what lines of dialogue were never spoken. Funny how that works, and how useless that bit of trivia was until I found an exquisitely flimsy excuse to use it!

I love the way bowling alleys are 'bowling alleys' no matter where you are! I find that comforting!

LOVE THIS!! Funny how I was in this bowling alley and didn't even see this! I think I was preoccupied with the restaurant we were about to go to, and editing my zillions of photos. I love "Star Trek", but this reminds me more of "The X-Files." The cold open where the kids are in the bowling alley and the space ship turns on it's shaft of light tractor beam and sucks them up in a Dwayne Barry fashion while their parents continue to bowl, and then frantically notice that the kids have disappeared. Cue creepy "ding-a-ning-a-ning" sound effect and dissolve into opening credits... Great shot! BTW, I didn't know Shatner never said, "Beam us up, Scotty." I know he said, "Energize," a lot, "Two(or how ever many there were in the ground party)to beam up," and frequently called Scotty "Mr. Scott," but I didn't know about the falsity of the famous line. Of course Carey Grant never actually said, "Judy, Judy,Judy." And Tony Curtis never actually said,"Yonder lies the palace of my fadder," either.
