Description

This is a belated birthday post for Chipka. I don't have any pictures of the little critters Chip likes so much, but hope this will be a good stand in. This young egret strolled up to my feet one day last winter when I was painting at the beach. It stayed there for about 20 minutes probably hoping I had some morsel to feed it. Disappointed, it finally walked away in search of more fruitful pickings. I missed the little fellow when he was gone. It was nice to have such lovely company. I think he if an immature snowy egret. Hope you had a lovely birthday Chip!

Oh, thank you for this! I noticed that he's wearing yellow shoes! Only birds can get away with that you know! You know, I actually think we have little critters like these in Chicago, but they only come out at 3am and simply flow across Oak Street beach. I saw them once with a couple of long-vanished friends. We thought they were sandpipers, but maybe they were something else...lots of something else; they were a bit small and so it was hard to tell, especially since we didn't get too close. Anyway, I'm rambling, but that's normal. And you know, I love critter shots of nearly every variety (co-workers are the only critters I tend not to photograph. I have a delicate stomach, after all.) And this is a gorgeous shot. Great details. I especially love the brightly colored feet (bird gym shoes) and the details in the sand. The patterns are so well captured and complex. The color makes me think of raw ceramic clay before it's shaped into something cool and fired. Thank you for this wonderful shot. I had a great birthday too! It's funny, I didn't take many pictures on my birthday...but I got a couple. None like this little one with brightly colored bird-shoes on.
