Description

Photo taken at 16:30 today, behind the Triangle shopping mall. In the left hand photo, the man dressed in red has a radio contol joystick strapped around his waist. He is remote controlling the long green crane arm of the truck in the right hand photo. The man standing between the cement truck and the pump truck (which is pumping concrete through the pipe attached to the crane) is receiving radio commands from the man in red as to how much concrete is coming out of the hose (see vertical hose held by man in center of left photo) and when to dump more into the pumping truck's apparatus. The men dressed in yellow are pouring concrete from the hose into the wire mesh and, with long rods, making sure it flows down to the ground a few feet below. The poured concrete is already being smoothed with the two red smoothing machines. This will be the floor of the lower level garage for the new shopping center. It's only taken a few days to make the wire mesh. It only took today to pour and smooth the concrete. Seeing the concrete flow out of the hose looks rather cool and weird at the same time, considering what is being "hosed". The photos were taken through the rather dirty back window of the shopping center, wherefore the fuzzyness and reflections. Who says high tech can't find a place in construction work?! Enjoy!

Fascinating commentary on who is doing what to what:-) Interesting that different jobs being performed dictate color of clothing. The same is true, but to even a larger degree on the 4 1/2 acre deck of an aircraft carrier. Advances in pouring concrete have come a long way since the Chrysler and Empire State Building were built 80 years ago. Keep up the eye-in-the-sky reporting. I am enjoying it.
