Description

As I continued North on my motorcycle journey, the flat rice paddies of Southern Bali gave way to the hills and mountains of the North. The Indonesian Archipelago lies along the Pacific Rim within the Ring of Fire, home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes. Bali itself contains twelve volcanoes. Fortunately eleven of them are dead or dormant. I stopped to view one of them, Gunung Batur (Mount Batur) and its companion lake Danau Batur (Lake Batur). Here I turned east towards Gunung Agung and Bali's Mother Temple. As the altitude gradually increased, the clouds grew more threatening.
