Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Beautiful shot & view.

Inspired use of the sillouette. It really works here. I was there in 1995, the last time there was this much runoff.

I just discovered that the area behind the house where I'm currently living is a permanently flooded piece of land: not exactly a meadow...I think it's actually a part of those Illinois Wetlands that I keep hearing about. That oversized puddle, undersized pond is where I captured those cute little water-fleas (harmless despite the ominous sound of their name.) All of that is to say that I'm now immensely fascinated by the way that lands around the middle part of the USA tend to flood, especially with the odd weather we've been having just north of all of the drought-ridden places that really need the surplus rain we'd gladly give away. And after all of that, I have to also say that this is a fantastic shot. I love the way one can actually imagine that this is a lake! I love the glimpse of the falls and the wonderful framing of that tree that is largely in silhouette. You really have an eye for this kind of stuff, and it recalls those pier-supports in a way, though it's totally different. I think it's the natural framing. You really do a good job with that kind of stuff, among other things, and this is a really strong shot. It's deliciously composed. I love the way it goes from hazy white to lively green, with that dark tree-silhouette tying the whole thing together. WOW! This really frakkin' rocks!
