Description
One must not leave Bali without seeing the Barong Dance, a classic story of the struggle between good and evil.
The father of Erlangga, a King of Bali in the tenth century, exiled Rangda, Erlangga’s mother, for practicing black magic. After the father’s death, Rangda returned to take her revenge on her son. She summoned all the evil spirits and demons to help her and a great battle ensued. Rangda was on the verge of victory when Erlangga asked for help from the Barong, a cross between a lion and a shaggy dog. In the end Rangda was defeated and the kingdom was saved.
