Description
Not exactly Koi.
Captured 5/26/11, at the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific, in beautiful Long Beach, California.
ZOOM worthy!
Taken through a smudged window with my Pentax DSLR, followed by extensive postwork, which resulted in surprisingly clear images. Sorry, Denise, but the pictures of the lagoon using my Canon PowerShot point-and-shoot camera didn't come out anywhere as good and had to be trashed.
The white stripes on the surface are from sunlight streaming through the louvered roof.
Okay, I know that most of you already know the identity of these sharks, but for the few who don't, that's a Blacktip Reef Shark (Carcharbinus melanopterus) in photo #1, and a Sand Tiger Shark (Carcharius taurus) in #2, with the last three pictures showing the two varieties joyfully cavorting about. There were also other varieties present, which I will get to later.
I found it interesting that they tend to swim just a few inches above the lagoon floor.
And, since I took a ton of shots of these cool denizens of the deep, no way was I going to show them one at a time as stand alones. And I wish I could include the theme music from the JAWS movie series.
Sayonara, thankx for the peek, and for any and all favs and laudatory comments.

They are just awesome creatures. You did a great job given the difficulty at a location like this.

Excellent use of available light...there are times where low light stops the average camera. A big well done to you and your Pentax Harry.

Such clear water for them! No way for prey to hide, not that it looks like there is any...wonder what they feed them? Really excellent captures, Harry, and I'm about to move up to DSLR myself...hoping it will arrive today!

Gorgeous collage Harry and I didn't realize that the Black Tips were smaller than the Sand Tiger Sharks. Dana
