Description

HI Everyone. I just wanted to tell you that I'll be back soon to thank all of you who honored me when my father passed, and everyone of you who've been so kind & supportive of me throughout my stay here. And I'll reply to every sitemail, I promise. I'm a heal for not acknowledging anyone yet, but I've had such an intense 4 months...but I'm very grateful for all you've given me since I came here, 3 & a half years ago, and I want you to know I haven't forgotten one of you. That's why I uploaded today... This is a few blocks from home: It seemed a fitting image even though it's winter & 'everyday' fare, because it's what I see all the time. And the house at the end of that street? One of Frank Lloyd Wright's earliest designs! This city is loaded with Wright's gems & one day I'll photograph them & share them with you. Oh---and why post winter when we just had a scorching heat wave? Wishful thinking! That snow looks pretty good right about now... I know many of you have had trials of your own, so I don't complain...I just needed a break because I lost 9 people in 3 years, and I really needed time off. I learned a ton of law & finance after my father passed: He was highly competent in those areas; but when someone gets ill, whoa is there a lot to do! I finally called a bank and said, "could you translate this into English???" The paperwork was mountainous, all when you're trying to mourn. But soon the presence of a wonderful soul seeps into your day, and it all becomes blessed in the end... You've all been wonderful & I thank you more than you can know. I'll be back in August to visit all of you. In the meantime, have a great rest of July, and blessings & light to everyone,
Mark (ps---happy birthday, Chip!!! I'll catch up with birthdays too in time)

Good to hear from you, Mark, and glad that the worst of the official stuff must be behind you now. I think I'd like to see more of the FLW house when you are recovered completely. I'm a lazy corresponder with no excuse like yours!

HIIII Mark ! WOW! is it wonderful to see you post again. It means that things are getting better for you. I am sure happy to know that, my friend. It is as usual an excellent capture from your city, wich i love to see, but I am so glad we dont have snow here yet :-) Here the weather is good for sitting outside and enjoy. Not too cold and not too warm. Wish I could blow cooler winds to Chicago :)

A very interesting photo to ease your current heatwave. I went through a ton of legal and financial stuff when my dad passed, so I do understand. So wonderful to know you are doing okay and coming to the other side of this. Losing those we love and 9 in three years is a challenge right to the soul. My thoughts and heart are with you, Mark. CC

I was so thrilled to see the ebot telling me you'd uploaded! I've missed your presence here. Love the shot, I wish it looked like that here now too, even though we've only had one day so far that was over 80 degrees. Welcome back even for a brief visit, and I look forward to your eventual real return!

I love this image. The strong contrasts with the barest hints of color, the perspective, the single vehicle out of place off in the distance, the Wright house at the end of the street ... from a point of view of all those technical and compositional aspects, this is outstanding. I also see this from an emotional space, and it strikes me as a vision of walking a long road from winter into spring. It's a wonderful metaphor, and it adds depth to my experience of viewing this photograph. It's good to see you posting, dear one, and I look forward to the day when you feel up to being "back" in a way that works for you. Much love and light ...

Ah, contrasting lights and darks with clarity throughout the DOF. I'll look forward to a future FLW Chicago shoot one day too when you have nothing else pressing...Ha! When will that be, you ask quizzically. Sure glad to see you having the opportunity to emerge from the heaviness of the past months and years. Everytime I think of someone with the weight of the world on their shoulders, I think of the Carl Van Vechten 1937 Atlas Statue at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Can you see your face on that statue;-)

I have over 1300 unanswered ebots in my mailbox, but this one I had to respond to. You've been on my mind so much these past months, and it's wonderful to know that like the chrysalis, you're on the verge of re-emergence. Take your time, dear friend, to feel the sun on your wings....

It is marvellous to see you posting again as your captures always give that extra zing to a photograph. This is a wonderful capture of this street with the snow adding an extra dimension and the lighting making it so clear. It sounds as though you are starting to come through this very emotional time in your life and I hope you take small steps forward each day. I look forward to seeing more postings from you soon. We had snow this week too but thank goodness it didn't stay long.

I have seen such horrible forecasts for August and now you lighten the month with the promise of your presence here. It is lovely seeing this image. I look forward to seeing more. Take care and take it slow if need be. A marvelous image, snow and Frank Lloyd Wright too! Beautiful depth and contrast. I love the long view down the street, the branches arching overhead, and the hint of red in the occasional car and the Wright house. I like the regularity of the cars on the right (There are some good parallel parkers in Chicago) and the highlights that accent curves and planes of the cars. There are couple of people in the distance, a car coming or going, but mostly quiet and peace. It is a restful image, a reminder that peace can be found in the most populous of places. I hope you are finding peace and rest. Light and love to you.

Stark and stunning contrast in this fine wintry shot, Mark, and a weather condition that all Chicagoans probably prayed for during your horrific heat wave. And happy to see you're making your way back from your traumatic experiences and health problems, my friend. Am limited for time on the computer so any further comments of mine would echo those that have preceded me.

Had I been up to date with your gallery, I would have reveled in this wonderful winter scene .. it was quite hot, even here along the shores of Lake Erie .. thank heaven for escapes to the Hollow! I was just thinking how grateful I am to be living here, up north, because we have seasons. Winter with it's frigid icy blasts of wind and snow and sleet and oh so much beauty. Makes on thrilled to see the snow melt .. green little things pushing their noses up from the dirt .. and then summer, unbelievably hot this year and Thank Heaven for the cool days now in September ...

Hey Mark!! Great to see you back! I've been meaning to comment on your gallery for awhile now. I like this photo a lot. It has that stark feeling that Chicago in winter does so well. I love the "urbanness" of it and the way everything comes together to form the whole. The rows of cars crowding the edges of the frame, the crusty, dirty ice/snow on the ground and fresher frosting in the trees. This brings to mind the feeling of that brisk, biting fresh air cold that Chicagoans know so well. That, and any shot made in the middle of the street is okay by me. Nice work here my friend.
