Description

2011-07-20 late afternoon The quality of this photo is very poor due to being taken through a dirty window on a grey, rainy day. However, it shows the enormous reach of the mobile crane. Yet, this is NOT the maximum reach - there is yet one more section to extend (if needed)! After taking the photo, I met the crane operator and asked him how far the crane could be extended - he said 93 meters (310 feet/103 yards) when all sections are extended. WOW! The very thought makes me scared of the height! However, with such a long arm, it's very important to not lift something too heavy, or to turn the crane so it becomes unstable. As bmac62 pointed out in a comment to an earlier post of this crane, accidents happen every year due to toppling over. Fortunately, no accidents have occurred here! The black cut off lower corners are due to the fact I had to take the photo leaning the camera sideways so I could get the whole length of the crane into the photo. I've turned the photo so the ground is horizontal, but... the lower corners. Sigh. Can't win them all! My thanks to bmac62, neiwil, debbielove, Faemike and others for your comments - quite encouraging. Keeps me posting! Enjoy! :)

Wow, that... makes me dizzy just looking at it. It appears to be triple the height of the building! I don't know how the construction business works, but I just wonder what they could be lifting that high, or why. There doesn't seem to be anything even approaching that level in the area. Maybe they're just showing off?

Fascinating...now you've got me thinking about roller coasters:-) Here's a link to a 310' (95m) roller coaster complete with a picture. Millenium Force. Your crane would be about this high but couldn't quite add steel to the top of this structure. Now, I am wondering if there is still a bigger crane... And the answer is...of course...but I can't find a quick answer...everybody seems to think they know about a bigger one... Get a load of this link: Click Here. Keep up the good work...sorry I was late commenting. You show us things in Sweden we typically don't see. I don't know of any other photographer RR'ers in Sweden...
