Description

A better view of the dragonfly presented yesterday just after emerging from the exsuvia. The wings are still joined instead of held away from, and perpendicular to, the body when at rest. Just after the emergence from the nymph the colors are also not exactly as in the adults. The Southern Hawker or Blue Darner (Aeshna cyanea) is a 70 millimetres (2.8 in) long species of hawker dragonfly. It is large, with a long body. It has green markings on the black bodies, and the male also has blue spots on the abdomen. Thank you very much for your comments on my previous upload: thumb_2234219.jpg "Just born…"

I've never been able to get one of these guys to stand still long enough to get a nice clear shot. Well done!

I hope to see another photo of this species when he's dry and has his wings open. He's pretty already.

Excellent capture, I too have trouble getting them to hold still long enough. I'm going to take a hint from you and look for them just emerging and trying to dry out and align their wings.
