Description

Old ink drawing (1980s) of an old Chicago window. Painted with magenta wash, pastels & a little ground glass, to make it look like 'stained glass'. A little heavy, but fun to do.
* * * Removed my image last night (hard to explain) but hope you enjoy this instead. Peace, Mark

There seem to be so many drawing techniques...what a gift to have many of them within your grasp. And this even has some ground glass? I've taken several photographs of stained glass a few years ago and see the same handling of light here as in an actual window. The tonal flow here is beautiful and I can almost feel the textures. So well done mark!

This one is simply amazing Mark, and as always visiting your gallery was an uplifting experience. This certainly has the appearance of stained glass, and knowing your attention to details that must have been one fantastic window it was patterned after. It would be nice to know more about the ground glass, and some of went through to create this one my friend.

What a lovely design. It seems rpresentative of parenting. At the base(beginning) one holds the child close, protecting and nurturing, then as they grow, they begin to reach out, at first tentatively, then more and more as they mature, finally flowering into an adult. I think this would make a wonderful carving.

What a marvellous window this must be to see in person! Your drawing gives me such a feeling for the original. I love the shading, the bits of color, the lines of the thing. Gorgeous work!

Oh my, Guttenberg would be overcome with awe at the sight of this magnificent ink drawing, Mark! You must have been clad in monk's attire during your period of pen and ink drawings.

I love this! Wonderful combination of solidity and fluidity. The bold vertical lines and horizontal textural lines are fixed, and static, while the diagonal textural lines and the curves are full of motion. I see movement going up from the base and ending in the flower shape at the top. More motion goes out from the center to the sides and up to the corners. The diagonal lines seem like rain, with a soft subtle movement. The curved lines flow like ribbons in a breeze. I love the shading, and the combination of bold, solid lines with light, fractured ones. Beautifully done and gorgeous!

What a lovely window you have drawn. I like the contrasts of thickness and delicate design. And the purple gives it a lushness. I used to do stained glass art and have several pieces in my home. I just loved all the different colors and textures of the glass. CC

This really does look like a stained glass window. I am intrigued by how you have done it with the ground glass. A very impressive design and the magenta wash gives it a great look. Superb work.

A beautiful drawing. I love your drawings and hope you post many more, no matter how deeply into your archives you have to dig. Makes me think of the iconic artwork .. you know the ones I mean, the ones seen those old religious icons .. I simply adore them, and this.

Simply wonderful, Mark. You say it is heavy..i think is a strong drawing ! Is powerful! One vitral.Stained glass have such power in its fragility! And it is a view from inside, and the luminosity is imponent. I love the geometry of the lines- thin lines- parallels and diagonals alternating the simetry behind the flower, giving room for, somehow, a tridimensional view . The leafs and the flower shine ... and in top the stamens shine too, and curiously, they look like figures!giving a human dimension to the flower. It is VERY BEAUTIFUL, Mark. It is a piece of art!

Of course it's heavy - lead always is! Beautiful design and technique (and feel, of course...).
