So rich...a beautiful photo. I am at a loss for words:) This snippet may say it best. From "The Sunlight Of The Soul", by a 19th century Kansas poet, James S. Jennings. ...Thus in moments when we're nervous With a care that few can test, Then this sunlight that is golden Gives our soul its needed rest.

This is brilliant. The simplicity makes it.

That is luscious. I love how the clouds cradle the sun as it peeks over its cozy blanket.

A beautiful capture of this sunrise. The brilliance of the reflection is marvellous and how lovely that the mist was just enough to be able to look fully into the sun. A wonderful way to start a day.

Have to say that your upload was just what I needed tonight Mark. Visiting your gallery and viewing your beautiful art and photos always manages to lift one's spirits no matter what is going on. I'm setting back and admiring this lovely capture of this hazy morning. This is one of those views that some mornings you wish it could last forever.

I don't know if your "haze" is California's smog, but it sure makes for great fotos!! I love these shots of yours, and I love your lake. I think it's related to my ocean somehow!!

Superb capture of this hazy sunrise; portending weather later in the day, perhaps? A truly wonderful scene, Mark!

This is Lake Michigan dawn, when it is best, I think. So peaceful. I love the reflections in the water and the clouds look like they intend to giving the sun a gentle stroke. This is a wonderful Morning shot, Mark. :)

GORGEOUS SUNRISE, I'M HAPPY TO WATCH IT FROM YOUR SHOT (I'M A NIGHT BIRD...)

Wow, you are so fortunate to have the vast expanse of Lake Michigan near you, as depicted in this phenomenal sepia tone capture of the sun, its watery reflection, and overall ambience, Mark!

Beautiful reflections! A wonderful capture of this sunrise.

Hazy around here lately, has meant smokey. I like this much better! Beautiful satiny richness! The sun seems to be peeking over the clouds to touch the water with his light. I love the smooth glassy surface of the water in the foreground. It has an indolent air, slow moving, and massively present. The light seems to dance on its surface. Beautiful halo of light around the sun with flecks of clouds around it. Excellent light and color. Beautiful! What a lovely way to greet the day!

Restful, relaxing, renewing. There is such beauty around us. It's so amazing, yet so ordinary. A fine image, dear one. It lulls my soul into peace.

This reminds me of so many mornings I've enjoyed--not surprisingly in Prague or other Czech locations. I developed a different relationship with haze and I like to think I'm better for it. From Czech haze, I learned that it's not always something that obscures or "looks foggy." It is, instead, a softening a free gift given (usually by the Vltava River) that allows you to bring yourself more smoothly into a day that may, or may not be troubling. It's a pause, a deep inhalation. Yes, the sun has risen and the mockingbirds (always heard but never seen!) are out singing their odd songs...the day has begun, but you're not required to jangle your nerves with a caffeine blitz, insipid morning news, and snarled traffic. You're allowed a kind of softness, a slow immersion into the more pleasant and sensual and contemplative aspects of being awake, aware, and alive...and I'm glad that I can now see such things exhaled from Lake Michigan, or other wet areas in these-here parts of the great-big flat spot known as the Midwestern USA...ah, those glaciers were heavy when they flowed (oh, so slowly) through here, all of those geological epochs ago. They flattened everything and left a few lonely boulders in areas where boulders have no business being. How miffed they must be! Anyway, onto this shot. It's incredibly gorgeous, superbly restful and it recalls "Gnossienne # 3," which just-so-happens to be one of my absolute favorite pieces of music that I always rediscover, no matter how many times I hear it. This image has that profoundly calm, yet haunting quality I love so much in the piece of music I find myself associating with this shot. Actually, when I stop and think of it, the best parts of Chicago are always tied to the lake, especially at sunrise, and on numerous occasions, I found myself listening to Gnossienne # 3 during lakeward sunrises, and so in one of those ways that's just poetically right, this image is an ideal embodiment of that song, as both are an embodiment of a mood, and ultimately, moods and feelings are the most appropriate domain for human beings. Cities, if we're lucky, are just convenient places for those moods to grow, and express themselves, when lazy, hazy mornings allow us to actually greet the upcoming day. Needless to say, I love this image: I especially like the whitish gold hues and the odd off colors that can only find any true expression in a sunrise or sunset...It's all sorts of fancy-schamncy science stuff that just flat-out works in the most elegant way imaginable. I love that existence has granted us the ability to see things like this, and to appreciate what are, scientifically, "just" diffraction/absorption/scatter patterns. Ah, but even science recognizes the elegant beauty of those things, it just gives them big names because--as we all know--scientists (like writers) are paid by the letter, so big names draw a bigger paycheck. This is superb work! I love it!

I like the golden path of light in the water, as if leading somewhere very peaceful. Your early morning walks always deliver such beauty. CC

Mark this is just so wonderful, the sun rising over the water, the reflection and the haziness so often seen in this sort of landscape. An excellent photo my friend, and thank you so much for your wonderful comments of my lion painting, it was so good to see your valued comments again in my gallery. hugs Jane xx

I must disagree with durleybeachbum about this being melancholy - I find it invigorating, in a truly peaceful way (if that's not a paradox).
