Description

Captured 6/21/11, in the beautiful Underwater Viewing Tunnel of the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California. Definitely ZOOM worthy. I really wasn't sure, so I titled this a pinniped instead of being more specific and calling it a seal or sealion, both of which fall under the pinniped classification. I feel deep in my gut that this one is a sealion, but I just wanted to cover all my bases and avoid the embarrassment of misidentification. That said, the difference between seals and sealions is that the latter have external ear flaps, long fore-flippers, the ability to walk on all fours, and have short thick hair. Incidentally, these guys aren't just out for a leisurely swim. They shoot by out of nowhere at warp speed, and photographing them presents quite a challenge. I may have snapped this at a higher than normal shutter speed. Toodles, thankx for coming aboard, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.
