Description
Captured 8/3/11, on my third visit to the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Don't cheat yourself. A ZOOM is an absolute necessity in this case.
Like looking out a space station porthole as they float in outer space.
SEA JELLIES are 90 percent water and have no brain, eyes, heart, or bones. Despite their simple design, the Aquarium's sea jellies require a complex environment to thrive. Round tanks called kreisels are designed to keep water flowing in a circle so the animals do not become caught on the sides of the exhibit. The jellies are monitored daily and are fed brine shrimp.
A high casualty rate in shooting these guys. Although the jellies appear to be suspended in a stationary position, they move just enough to leave a blurry double exposure effect when using the aquarium setting on my camera in a dark environment. Hence, out of the 117 shots I took, only 15 came out satisfactorily. And, messing with high ISO is anathema to me. Actually, the ISO aquarium setting is already automatically defaulted for those conditions. I've also been experimenting with other settings on my Canon point-and-shoot cam. In addition, awkward as it may be, with aquariums, it's tripod time from now on. So no more fooling around.
Au revoir, thankx for coming aboard, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

Lashia: No abstract here. This is as real as real can be.

An excellent capture of these cute little critters. You would think they might get giddy always travelling in a circle. Can't beat the tripod to get the better pictures but they are a pain to carry around.

I like the little tendrils around their edges; nice details here, Harry...I guess if there's no brain they can't get dizzy! Don't they kinda remind you of those old shaving brushes?

Brilliant shot Harry, I know how difficult these are to capture after my pathetic attempts at the London Zoo.. lol You have a far better result, well done! Rob One thing Harry, if you can when shooting animals etc, can you take a shot of the name plate, then you can name the beasties! lol I for one love to know these things... Thanks..

Fascinating capture Harry, reminds me of when I went to the Chattanooga aquarium they had so many different variteties of jelly fish I never knew that many existed.

This is a very fun shot. It looks like they are dancing. I can imagine Disney animators setting their motion to music. Beautiful shot! I love their tendrils and translucency.

Looks like they are in a front loading wash machine! LOL Awesome capture, zoomed in is definitely a MUST! Excellent shot!
