Description
The people of Samosir still farm their fields but they cannot grow everything they need. And the tourists must have fresh fruit and vegetables. Throughout the week boats come from the mainland, tie up at the village of Tomok, and unload their cargo. The goods are destined for the mother of all farmer's markets.

love your stories and travel pictures. Do you use/have some post processing programs ? then you could try the automatic color correction, which mostly gives with on push of a button a less color overcast result

SO much to see! Truly fascinating photos. My eye is drawn of course to the bananas but then repeatedly to the clambering lady further back in that shot. I found myself wondering about her life, so very different to mine and yet with similar concerns...food,home,children,family. Just so much very much harder for her.

Market days are always something special. The hustle and bustle of the traders and customers, the different smells, discover the things of which one is not familiar with the haggling for the best price ...... I imagine it exciting before. And later comes the great awakening, when I realize that I've paid too much .... LOL Wonderful pics!!

Green Bananas and they do prepare them also like that - no need for waiting until they are ripe, so I have learned ... what an atmosphere of the hustle and the bustle on market days, even the old oil-drum has seen better days - nothing is wasted! BB

I think we forget just what is actually involved in getting food on our tables. Wonderful photos! You would have been a great photo journalist as well as a mad scientist. :) Great trip you had, I'm enjoying it.

Semen Padang? Just asking. Wonderful shots! So much activity. I love the bananas and the clambering lady too. I'm interested in the lady on the edge looking out and the hand holding the rope. The bottom image looks a little more relaxed. Very interesting! I am loving seeing the world through your images!
