Description

Captured 2/16/10. Utterly ZOOM worthy. The same flower, this time snapped at a different POV, that I posted yesterday under the mistaken title of "A Crocus, maybe #1." Since then correctly identified as a Magnolia Blossom by auntietk and npauling. Many thanks, ladies! Something less to worry about. This species must be extremely rare in Southern California, because I sure hadn't seen it before, or haven't since, during my extensive nature travels in the area, or even at the nurseries that deal in flora. Finger healing but still in a splint, so this wasn't easy. Ta-ta.

Glad you discovered the true identity, Harry. Beautiful blossom, and from this angle, it does appear to be a Magnolia, although personally, I have only seen white Magnolias here.

This is a super capture of this lovely Magnolia. I think it is one of the 'Jury' magnolias that were bred in NZ by Mr. Jury, that is why I recognised it he has some fabulous trees and some of them have flowers the size of dinner plates and he has even brought out a yellow one. They do so well down here. Sorry to hear about your finger but I hope it is on the mend now. Very awkward to type I would think.

Glad to help! It's a glorious blossom, and worthy of attention. I'm not surprised you don't see many of them down there. They thrive in the damp drizzle of the Pacific Northwest.

I almost like this POV better, than the first Magnolia - it must be the two-tone colour, which makes it look so special, BB

Lovely capture! I like looking down into the flower and seeing the narrowing of the petals in the center. Magnolias grow well in the deep south (a lot of moisture there too). It's also the state flower of Mississippi because of the abundance of them in the state.

It's a real beauty, Harry, and excellent capture. Now that I see the center I can see that it's a magnolia, although I've never seen one quite these colours before. Well done!
