A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

When I saw the title, on my "notifications" page, I didn't expect the image that greeted me, and needless to say, that's the first pleasant surprise. And then the image itself...WOW! I love the fact that it's exactly what the title says, but it's not your normal "palm tree" shot, and I think that's where it works best: I mean, it works incredibly well on a lot of levels, but that's the level that "makes it" for me. I really like the intimate focus on the palm tree, especially since it has such nice textures and unexpected colors. Well, unexpected for me. I live in Chicago, we don't "do" Palm tree stuff here and so I'm really surprised to see a bit of red where I didn't expect red. And the bird is simply handsome and perfectly posed. All-in-all, this is a fantastic photo.

i think it's a sort of corvids ?! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Caledonian_Crow i don't know whether it fits, but beautiful captured in front of the bright palmtree!!

Wow, from the looks of it, that could be a jackdaw, generic black bird, merl, but certainly not a crow, Melinda. And the beaches around Southern Calif tend to remain overcast and drab this time of year, even when the inner city and valleys are bright and sunny. Rain forecast beginning Friday through Sunday.

Love the tree background; the texture -- against that black bird. A Crow? Harry doesn't think so .. so, what do I know. Lots of kinds of black birds too lol Great shot! I love it!

What a beautiful shot Melinda..I love the image and the colors. Birds are amazing and who knows what this one might have been doing, perhaps checking out a nesting spot, or perhaps just about to "steal" some of the palm tree fibre for a nest somewhere else....I also- have no idea what type of bird it might be, apart from a blackbird, hehe..and am with you...it sure isnt a seagull...:)
