On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Cast iron, eh. I don't think we have any historic shopfronts made of that in my town..but now I shall look again!

Great shot Bill and a reflection too!!

Used to be a bit of this in Liverpool, saddly all gone now.Given the 'process' of creating this, I'm surprised they went to the trouble of making it look like carved stone. Modernity in keeping with tradition 1800's style ?. Obvious question time, what did Messrs White & Bender do or purvey?

Cast iron was an "in thing" in architectural decoration during the time period mentioned. Iron was made an architectural "in thing" with the building of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It became a part of the art nouveau movement in art and architecture, even in small buildings. It was considered more easy to shape (melt and pour) than stone and more durable if cared for (paint to prevent rust). Connected with this is the art nouveau stain glass windows, often mounted in cast iron frames. Often easy to assemble with a few nuts and bolts. Nice to see this preserved. Keep up the good work! :-)

So lovely.... From a time when quality and craftsmanship were the goals and the end product. A lost art for sure. Now, it's slap it together as quickly and cheaply as possible - and charge top dollar. Sad. Beautiful capture, Bill!

Stellar POV employed in this pic of the beautifully scrolled window work, Bill. I believe that is its cast shadow at the upper left of the foto.

I agree with you Bill it has sooooo much style. Well done mate.

This is quite a fascinating shot and it's full of all sorts of fun little details! I really like the angle on this and the familiarity of that metalwork...We have quite a bit of that in odd places tucked around Chicago and it definitely adds character to the city (until we tear such beauties down!) What really gets me is the whole style thing: not just of this building itself (I love old-school lettering too) but of this whole photograph. This is brilliantly composed.
