Dang - that must be one heck of a lens, Bill! If that's only 70mm, you could have examined his retina with 840! Nice and sharp - a great portrait of this dapper fellow!

Wonderful photo and details especially in zoom. He looks like he is concentrating on something far, far away.

Stunning shot! If I'm not mistaken, I know what that dark patch on the beak is for: it's a target for gull-chicks to peck, which triggers the...um...barf-response parental gulls use in order to feed their kids. Aren't you glad to know that now? Aside from the avian habit of feeding pre-digested food to their ravenous chicks, this photo triggers quite a lot of thoughts. I especially like the crisp, clarity and the wonderful, natural colors. This is one focused gull, as well and quite a handsome specimen. I rather like gulls, especially when they look sophisticated and detached, like this one. This is brilliantly done! Nice that you got to play with a new camera too! (I also suspect this gull is a relative to the a race of aliens I read about in a David Brin novel, the Kweku, I believe they're called...they're avian...and somewhat...um...well...um...surly. This gull has a surly edge. I'm sure that after you nabbed this brilliant shot, the gull in question went on to commit some act of avian larceny. They're so good at that!
